ARK Survival Evolved Will Not Wipe Official Servers For Launch On August 8th

Survival MMO ARK will not be wiping any of its official servers in the lead up to launch on August 8th. Instead, all official servers for both PvE and PvP will have a “Legacy” tag.

For brand new players who want a newer group experience, they can join a new PvP Server Cluster Network. This will launch and run separately from the PvP Legacy clusters. Moreover, a new server code and infrastructure will be rolling out at launch. This is to address a number of critical issues on new and legacy servers over time. Here’s a quote:

“Our current set of Official Servers will be rebranded as “Legacy” and indicated as such on all platforms. We will also be taking steps to remove some of our ‘ghost town’ servers, where the player population has remained near-zero for an extended duration of time. We’ll take a look at the statistics and will be repurposing 10% of the lowest count servers across all platforms. Once we know which servers these are; we’ll preserve the save files and upload them, so if you so wish to use them, you can. Players will also have time to move through Cross-ARK to a different secure Legacy server. Every three months we will be taking a review of the Legacy Officials to see what the numbers are like and may consider repurposing more ‘ghost towns’, however, the goal will be to preserve any place with human activity.”

While that sounds promising, I do share the worry of existing players. Many of whom, believe that there will be more abandoned buildings in these servers that needs to be cleaned up. We’ll just have to wait and see if the new codes does indeed clean things up every three months. Fore more on ARK, click here.
