Blizzard Will No Longer Support Windows XP and Vista

For anyone still playing Blizzard games like World of Warcraft or Hearthstone in Windows XP or Vista, we’ve got bad news. It’s time to get an upgrade.

In a WoW forums post, Community Manager Ornyx shared the news about the games which will be affected. It looks like Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 and Heroes of the Storm will join WoW and Hearthstone in dropping XP and Vista support.

You can’t say this wasn’t coming. Windows 10 is blazing through the market at the speed of light, with more than 400 million devises currently running the OS.

There are less and less gamers running Windows XP and Vista these days. Some folk will live and die by these systems due to preference. Others will argue that Windows 10 has given them so many problems and were forced to revert.

Both accounts are fair I suppose, but if you do stick to them then prepare to say goodbye to some of your favorite Blizzard games. The move I feel is also necessary to improve the performances across the board in these games.

Remember when game clients were moving from 32-bit to 64-bit? It’s exactly the same in this case. Having the majority of Blizzard gamers on the same OS will help the developers. They can cater for and optimize their games better for the players on this gen’s OS.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom. Older games like the first Diablo and Starcraft are not on the list. So if you folks are still running that on your old machines in the basement, carry on.
