Final Fantasy XIV former players can engage in a free campaign:
Square Enix is hosting a special eventfor all former Final Fantasy XIV players who no longer have an active subscription for the game; the four day event starts when the user first logs-in to the game. Players have until January 4th 2017 to log-in to FFXIV and claim their campaign.
This event is limited to three types of users:
1. Those who have previously bought and registered their copy of Final Fantasy XIV
2. All registered accounts that were set to “inactive” during the event period
3. Registered accounts must have been inactive for at least 30 days
A very small number of people will be able to claim this and engage in the special campaign; details about what this campaign entails is limited right now and Sqaure Enix has revealed very little about the plot.
The official post on the Final Fantasy XIV website goes into more detail about the campaign; the free login period will begin as soon as the player logs into the game launcher using their Square Enix account details. Players who have multiple service accounts registered to their Square Enic account will not be able to access the campaign if one of those accounts still has an active subscription.
The developer has confirmed that the free login period is dependent on the users local time; once a player has started the campaign, they have until the fourth day at 11:59 pm on the fourth day of their campaign access. Square Enix has confirmed that the test will end for everyone on January 4th at 6:59 am PST.
