Final Fantasy XV inspired mobile MMO confirmed
Final Fantasy developer Square Enix has officially partnered with mobile game developer Machine Zone (MZ) to create a MMO based on the upcoming Final Fantasy game. Details about what this game will be are quite limited right now but it’s been confirmed that the game will be bringing familiar characters and the soundtrack from Final Fantasy XV; it will also feature some of the story but it’s still unclear exactly how this would work.
MZ are the creators of the popular MMORTS games Mobile Strike and Game of War: Fire Age. The developer is clearly a good choice for Square Enix to work with but their past work could be concerning for MMORPG fans; it suggests that the game will be a RTS and will just add to the already saturated mobile genre.
It makes sense that Square Enix is looking to release a mobile game to maximize the impact of Final Fantasy XV when it’s released later this month; the company has already released a range of other mobile ports or spin-off games for their titles.
There is still a mobile MMORPG for Final Fantasy currently in development; Final Fantasy Type-0 Online is currently in beta testing and is confirmed for all mobile devices along with a PC version. This game is still due for a 2016 release but developer Perfect World and Square Enix are both very quiet about this game.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XV is due for release on November 29th for a worldwide release. Anyone interested in a MMO spin-off for this game should expect more information to be released close to this date.
