In a shock announcement only a couple of hours ago, Activision has revealed that they are ending its partnership with Bungie, makers of the Destiny franchise. However, Bungie will still retain full control of the the MMO co-op shooter moving forward.

Activision has released a statement of the matter, and says that Bungie will assume full publishing rights and responsibilities for the Destiny franchise, while Activision will increase its focus on owned IP and other projects.

Bungie too, has now released their own statement below:

“With Activision, we created something special. To date, Destiny has delivered a combination of over 50 million games and expansions to players all around the world,” it said. “More importantly, we’ve also witnessed a remarkable community – tens of millions of Guardians strong – rise up and embrace Destiny, to play together, to make and share memories, and even to do truly great things that reach far beyond the game we share, to deliver a positive impact on people’s everyday lives.”

As for the content road map planned for 2019, Bungie confirms that it’s still happening. The studio’s plan for more content drops will not be hampered by the split in partnership with Activision. Players that are concerned with Battle.net dropping its support for Destiny 2 won’t have to worry too much, as Blizzard’s customer support has Tweeted that support will still continue.
