Onslaught introduces a new game area based on Robert E. Howard’s Black Colossus (1933), one of the original short stories featuring Conan the Barbarian. Here, you will be faced with a new threat, as the ancient wizard Thugra Khotan has awoken after thousands of years and is seeking to fulfill his ambition of world domination. Waves of ferocious armies will charge at you on the steps of the great Ivory Dome of Kutchemes. The dome itself is said to contain unimaginable riches, but also a slumbering dread god.

Players can also enjoy a new game mode, new quests, and a selection of new and exquisite weapons and armor, including powerful starmetal weapons and The Thugra Khotan Vanity Armor.

Age of Conan broke sales records and received critical acclaim when it was first released in May 2008. Since then the game has become free-to-play and was in 2011 rebranded to Age of Conan: Unchained. Funcom has over the years continued to support the game, with new areas, dungeons and massive improvements to gameplay. Today the Norwegian game developer are set to release Onslaught, the biggest Age of Conan update in years.

All good things eventually comes to an end, and AoC’s Saga of Zath server is ending this month. On May 15th, players will have to say goodbye to the progression server that have been popular with both new and former players. So what will happen to your character and achievements once the server goes down? Here’s everything you need to know.

#1 Saga of Zath will merge with Crom

On the 15th of May when the server goes down, it will be merged with the existing live Crom server. That means your Saga character will be transferred to Crom. This includes Saga quest rewards, titles and guilds that you are in. However, keep in mind that items that are still on the Tradepost or in the Mail will be gone forever, so sort that out soon.

#2 You will receive a free character slot for Crom if you are level 20 and above

For everyone that plays on the Saga server with a character above level 20, you will receive a free character slot on Crom. This ensures that you can immediately continue playing your saga character. Unfortunately, for players below level 20, your character will still transfer, but will be locked if you have no slots. The good news is, you still get rewards for being level 20 and below, like the Embrace of Zath cloak cosmetic reward.

#3 There will be naming rules if there happens to be a conflict

Character names will be transferred from Saga of Zath. If there is a naming conflict, it will be resolved according to the following, in order:

• Recent Account Activity – If an account with a Crom character causing a naming conflict has been played in the last 24 months, the Crom character keeps the name. If that account has been inactive for the past 24 months, the Saga character keeps the name. If both accounts are active, then…
• Higher Character Level – The higher-level character keeps name. If they’re the same level, then…
• Older Character Creation Date – The older character keeps name.

Characters who lose their name will be provided a temporary name and you will be able to rename them for free the next time you log in with that character.

Funcom and Age of Conan today revealed a surprise announcement for players. AoC will be introducing a unique saga server in early 2018.

The Saga of Zath server will be live for a limited period of time and features special rewards for completing objectives. All interested players will start from fresh with a brand new character. The new saga server character will then get a free transfer to Crom once the live period ends. What’s cool is that all the unique rewards you pick up along the way in the saga server will come with you.

Players will be able to claim rewards on a single character of their choosing. The saga server will be open to everyone – long time veterans and new players alike. This is a pretty unique opportunity for players to jump back into the world of AoC. You’ll be able to experience Tortage again in a different light, and it’s nice to see Funcom showing some love to the MMORPG again.

While there isn’t any more info on the Saga of Zath, hold on to your horses. According to the developers, more details will make its way public closer to 2018.

Some big news from Ashes of Creation this week, as we get information on how grouping will work.

In the first of a series of developer blog posts regarding grouping, we know two things. The first, is that Ashes is looking to put the “Massively” back into MMOs. Group content in the game will be exciting as it harnesses the individual and cohesive abilities of the group.

Solo play will still be viable for those that prefer it, but the devs believe that MMOs are best when players come together. One of the first things we learn is that the base group size in Ashes is eight. It’s a steady increase from other games, where four to six is usually the norm. 8-man groups allows the content to amplify party roles and take advantage of all class archetypes.

Speaking of roles, Ashes of Creation will emphasize importance on the holy trinity. That is of course, the Tank, DPS and Healer. However, Support roles are as equally important via the secondary class system to make customizing player characters a key feature.

“We want players and their builds to feel malleable in Ashes of Creation. We never want you to feel pigeonholed into a single role, but at the same time we want roles and customization choices to be meaningful”.

Are you on the Ashes of Creation bandwagon yet? If you aren’t, you really should be. Intrepid Studios are really going places with their game. Their Kickstarter campaign that begun in May has ended this week.

And without any surprises, the game managed to meet it’s funding goals and got more than it bargained for. Initially targeting $750,000, Ashes of Creations total funds raised sits at an incredible $3,271,809.

That is a fantastic amount for an upcoming MMORPG. According to the crowd fund page, over nineteen thousand people have pledged to the cause. The sums raised also allowed AoC to meet every stretch goal on offer.

Here’s what Steven Sharif, CEO of the AOC team had to say:

“This is simply stunning. We cannot thank the fans of Ashes of Creation enough for their support. We promise we won’t let you down, and we’re absolutely thrilled to find so many like-minded gamers who want to see the MMORPG genre truly move forward.”

Overall, a fantastic month or so for the MMORPG. It’s one to keep an eye out for, especially during these early days in the development cycle. It has the potential to take the MMO market by storm.
