Tides of Vengeance will be World of Warcraft’s first major content update. It’s scheduled to enter PTR this week, with a release date coming soon. More excitingly, this patch may be the answer that solves many of the concerns from Battle for Azeroth’s launch. It introduces a plethora of new content like an extension to the War Campaign story and more. Here’s why you should be excited for Patch 8.1.

More Story Driven Content

From a story perspective, players will argue that BFA under-delivered. It took an in-depth view at the narratives featuring Jaina Proudmoore and Talanji, while leaving out other major characters. For the most part, it works as the writing is more than decent and new characters have emerged. In 8.1 Tides of Vengeance, prepare to be bombarded with more story, and it’s the plot line we all want. Data miners have uncovered a central story-line involving ousted Horde legend Saurfang, a return of Voljin and more.

We already know the War Campaign will add more story chapters, yet it remains to be seen if these returning characters will be involved. Oh and before we forget, Tyrande also returns with a new story-line. She did have an exchange of words with Saurfang on the Darkshore, so it all makes sense.

Incursions

World of Warcraft is about to add Incursions to Battle for Azeroth in Tides of Vengeance. This new world content works very similarly to Legion’s Invasions, but it’s now done by the opposite faction’s forces as opposed to the Burning Legion. This simply means that leveling characters can participate in Incursions and earn a large amount of experience points for leveling up. You can take part in Incursions while leveling if at least one character on your account has unlocked World Quests. This is a great addition and will be much welcomed by players who are leveling alts.

New Warfront

The Battle for Stormgarde Warfront has been out for close to a month and so far, so good, even if a little repetitive. Running Warfronts are quick, with a sure fire way to earn iLevel 340 gear which is handy for gearing up alts. With 8.1: Tides of Vengeance, a new Warfront is entering the fray. The Battle for Darkshore will focus around the Night Elves and the Forsaken and features new improvements from the previous ones.

The Battle for Darkshore starts with the Horde controlling the area, while the Alliance starts of in the contribution phase. The open world zone for Darkshore will also receive a revamp with max level rare enemies and quests showing up once live.

New Island Expeditions

From all the new content in Battle for Azeroth, Island Expeditions are definitely the wild card. You either love it or you don’t. Regardless, two new ones are coming with the new patch. Jorundall and Havenswood are their names, so expect to see new landscapes, events and enemies. These islands will have Holdouts that you can trigger and new Azerite Extractions – bases players control to increase Azerite over time.

New Raids

And if that doesn’t satisfy your pallet, there’s two new raids coming with Tides of Vengeance. Firstly, the Siege of Zuldazar. For the first time in history of WoW, both factions will have a different story experience in a raid. Only after finishing the six new bosses, can players find out what happen from the Horde’s perspective.

The second raid is the Crucible of Storms, which comes out some time after Siege of Zuldazar. The raid will have story and supporting content, and will add more to the Stormsong Valley quest line. We hope to see more of Queen Azshara here.

When the Battle for Azeroth erupted worldwide last week, champions of the Alliance and the Horde around the globe were called upon to fight for their faction. Heroes everywhere turned out in force, and Blizzard Entertainment today announced that as of Battle for Azeroth’s first full day of launch on August 14, more than 3.4 million units of the latest World of Warcraft® expansion had sold through worldwide—setting a new day-one sales record for the franchise and making it one of the fastest-selling PC games of all-time.*

“Battle for Azeroth is a definitive chapter in the Horde and Alliance conflict at the heart of Warcraft, and it’s been thrilling to see players representing their factions in record numbers and embarking on their war campaigns—not to mention joining in ourselves,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “But the launch is just the beginning of this conflict. More epic content is coming to World of Warcraft in the weeks ahead, and we can’t wait for players to experience the full story as it unfolds over the course of the expansion.”

As Azeroth’s defenders continue to explore new regions in search of allies and resources, preparations are being made for the next great confrontation in the ongoing war:

  • In the coming weeks, players will be able to charge into Battle for Azeroth’s first Warfront, Stromgarde—a 20-player co-op battle for control of a key strategic stronghold in the Arathi Highlands.
  • On September 4, the gates will open to Battle for Azeroth’s first raid—Uldir, an ancient titan facility housing horrific Old God experiments gone awry.
  • Also on September 4, the expansion’s first PvP season and first Mythic Keystone dungeon season will commence. The Mythic Keystone dungeon will feature a unique “seasonal affix”—Infested—that introduces new challenges based on the corrupted denizens dwelling in the Uldir raid.
  • Beyond that, additional updates are in the works that will provide even more content for players on an ongoing basis, including the ability to recruit the Kul Tiran humans and Zandalari trolls as playable Allied Races. More information on future updates will be shared at a later date.

World of Warcraft’s Battle for Azeroth expansion has been out for a week. Millions of players have returned to the world of Azeroth, to take the fight to the opposite factions in new lands. After the atrocities committed by the current Warchief of the Horde – Sylvannas Windrunner – both factions are of to Kul Tiras and Zandalar to make new allies for the war. BFA costs $60 and increases the level cap to 120, with two new continents and a plethora of new features, is the World of Warcraft’s new expansion worth playing?

The Story Is Incredible This Expansion

Legion was a stunning victory for the Horde and the Alliance. And then it all went pear-shaped as Sargeras plunged his sword into Azeroth in one last act of defiance, which results in the exploitation of Azerite. This tiny valuable resource is of great import to both factions for weapons. And it’s really why we go to war.

The Alliance sends Jaina Proudmoore back to her homeland of Kul Tiras to persuade the united houses led by her mother to join the Alliance. It’s one of the best and most emotional storylines WoW has ever produced and is worth a playthrough. The Horde deals with the aftermath of Slyvanas’s actions, and must cooperate with a new power player princess. It’s another excellent storyline. All round, from the zone quests, side missions and even the War Campaign, Blizzard seems to have outdone themselves. The voice acting and the high quality of the cut scenes and cinematics are incredibly to experience.

Island Expeditions Adds Extra Content Spice

One of the cool features about this new expansion are the two new game modes. Island Expeditions and Warfronts are two of the new content types and players are already enjoying the first one. Island expeditions are unlike anything you’ve done in World of Warcraft. Two teams of three players each from both factions go against each other on lush thematic islands, collecting Azerite until there’s a winner. What makes it fun is that for PvE, you come up against clever AI on multiple difficulty options and they feel well designed. This means there is a challenging aspect that makes it fun and not boring. Having done a few for the new weekly quest, that sense of adrenaline makes you feel like you’re playing a MOBA game.

The mini-objectives like killing rare elites on the island or the other team themselves makes each Island Expedition feel different. Players can concoct the best strategy to collect as much Azerite as possible, and in the PvP mode, you can imagine how fun things get. Overall, this is a solid new addition to the game.

Azerite Armor

While it’s sad to lose our Artifact Weapons from legion, at least we get to keep the skins. What’s new in Battle for Azeroth is the Azerite armor system, beginning with the Heart of Azeroth neck item. Given to you by Magni Bronzebeard at the start of the story, you need to grow it in artifact power, same as you did back in Legion. The system works just as well, as plenty of quests, World Quests and other activities like PvP Battlegrounds and Island Expeditions also reward AP.

To cool thing is the Azerite armors. Players can customize traits by picking from a few options for their current specialization on these new armors. Head, Chest and Shoulders are the three pieces of Azerite armor, and more rings of trait choices are unlocked the more AP your necklace has. So in many ways, it’s still the same old gear and AP grind of the previous expansion, but feels fresh enough as at higher difficulty dungeon drops you do get some awesome traits.

More To Come September 4th

Plenty of players are already at the 12o cap, and have moved over to the opposite faction’s continent to quest and do their daily world quests. What’s the end-game at the moment? For now, it’s gearing up for Mythic runs and the upcoming raid Uldir on September the 4th, which isn’t far away. Overall, there’s plenty to do this expansion cycle. If you aren’t farming for rep, you’re doing a plethora of other things. So is Battle for Azeroth worth playing? If you enjoy where World of Warcraft’s current story is going, it’s a yes. The story is great, and so are the zones. The new dungeons are a blast, and we can’t wait to see the raid.
