Following the release today, Bohemia Interactive will continue in post-launch development of DayZ with free platform updates scheduled to drop throughout 2019. These updates will further expand the content available in DayZ (adding new weapons and vehicles) and go more in-depth with some of the existing gameplay concepts.

DayZ’s Xbox One launch has been made possible thanks to a massive help of the Xbox Game Preview community of players. Over the past months, over 500,000 players jumped in to DayZ on Xbox Game Preview and helped to improve the game in many areas. Some of the key improvements in controls, inventory management and performance are addressed in today’s launch update.

Rising to popularity as an Arma 2 mod, DayZ originally launched as a standalone game in Steam Early Access in December 2013. Since then, the game has gone through a major engine overhaul. Now powered by modules of Bohemia’s newEnfusion Engine, practically every part of the game has been completely redeveloped and improved.

On Xbox One, players can get a digital copy of DayZ directly in the Microsoft Store for $49.99 / £41.99 / €49.99. The game is also out now on Steam for PC and is coming to PlayStation 4 later this year.

With a major game update scheduled for the launch day, DayZ is leaving Xbox Game Preview after 7 months of early access development and close cooperation with the community. The game still has post-launch updates scheduled, but the developers are ready to welcome fresh-spawned console survivors and challenge them to stay alive.

With the need to manage your character’s basic survival requirements and the looming danger of permadeath restarting your progress, DayZ is an exceptionally immersive game. Celebrating this unique storytelling aspect of DayZ, Bohemia Interactive premiered a cinematic CGI cinematic trailer that presents one example of the various stories DayZ can offer. Crossing ways with hostile bandits, overcoming injuries, plotting revenge and improvising during combat are all concepts very familiar to DayZ players. That, and a little bit of imagination — or willingness to fully immerse yourself into the world — will reward you with highly personal gameplay moments very close to this cinematic vision of DayZ.

DayZ is launching on Xbox One thanks to the massive help of the Xbox Game Preview community which shaped the game over the past months. Compared to the current January Game Preview build, the March 27 update will introduce things like an improved controls scheme, better inventory interactions, and general improvements in stability and performance — both on servers and in-game. This should lead to a much smoother overall experience, and should also allow new players to just enjoy the game without the early access hassle. To ensure that everyone starts fresh on launch day, all existing player characters and server persistence data from Game Preview will be wiped.

DayZ will continue in post-launch development with free platform updatesscheduled to drop throughout 2019. These updates will further expand the content available in-game (new weapons and vehicles) and go more in-depthwith some of the existing gameplay concepts.

Until the launch update on March 27, DayZ is still available for its Game Preview price of $39.99 / £31.99 / €39.99, offering players a last chance to get the game for a lower price. After the launch, DayZ will be available for $49.99 / £41.99 / €49.99.

The game is also coming to PlayStation 4 later this year.

“It’s always nice to see new players trying DayZ, but what’s probably even more important to me is that our existing community is slowly coming back into the game after taking a break. We have dozens of community servers opening again and experimenting with early mods. We’ve more than doubled our daily active players count after the PC BETA, and that’s with a game that still needs a lot of polishing and bug fixes. The growing excitement is such a welcome change, especially after the last two years that were really tough for us and the community alike” added Eugen Harton, DayZ’s Lead Producer at Bohemia.

The features and content introduced in the PC BETA (with the exception of modding support) will also be making their way to Xbox One next week, still in time for the Xbox Black Friday sale and bringing along a number of important fixes for issues reported by the Xbox community.

While the update does not mark the start of BETA for DayZ on Xbox One yet, it is the biggest content update since DayZ’s debut in Xbox Game Preview this August. After delivering the update, the development focus will shift from introducing new features to collecting feedback on the overall user experience and inventory management – the last important steps before the game can reach BETA, and eventually aim for a full release.

On both PC and Xbox One, DayZ will continue development post 1.0 release, introducing new content and features as free platform updates.

Starting now and running all the way to November 26, DayZ is 15% OFF in Xbox Game Preview, priced at $33,99 / £26,99 / 33,99€. On Steam, it is still available for its Early Access Alpha price of $34.99 / £22.99 / 27,99€.

DayZ is scheduled to leave Early Access at the end of 2018, and release on Xbox One early next year. Bohemia Interactive also confirmed that DayZ is still in development for PlayStation 4 as well, with a release scheduled for later next year.
