]]> Kakao’s massive open world MMORPG, Elyon, is receiving some exciting new updates, starting with a new 30-player raid, which was revealed in their 2022 roadmap video which can be watched below.

In this brand new raid 30 players will face Irukas, a dragon that has obliterated his opponents at Dragon’s Arena and crowned the “King of Battles.” This raid heavily focuses on teamwork, and challengers will be expected to work closely to overcome difficult attack patterns.

There are also new hunting grounds: the Clan vs Clan based Temple of Desire and the underwater Secret Sea.

In addition to these new areas, Kakao Games is also adding a new battle type. “Mega Manamechs” will aid clans in PvP battles, and with a new castle siege system in development, these mechs may soon be called upon to help overcome stalwart defenses. 

New boss monsters will present new challenges for Elyon players, both in the content above, and future planned content.

Players looking for a fresh new playstyle will enjoy the introduction of two new classes; the Paladin and the Soulbringer.

]]> When it comes to MMORPGs, free to play has never been more prevalent in the genre. There’s dozens upon dozens of free entry MMO games that allows you to jump into the world and creep toward the end-game without spending too much. Of course, for most games, there’s always a catch. Things like additional content in DLCs, Expansions and of course micro-transaction exists. So in a way, there’s no completely free game out there. However, on a tight budget, there’s still some solid titles out there that will offer you tons of fun for the free entry. Here’s our picks for the best MMORPGs to play if you’re not keen on spending money.

1. Star Wars: The Old Republic

There was a period in time that SWTOR wasn’t actually considered free to play friendly at all. Most saw BioWare’s monetization of the game as greedy, and with a massive fan base like Star Wars, corporations would obviously want to cash in on that. Today, SWTOR has dialed back on some of its free to play restrictions, letting you play all the base game’s class stories for free up to level 50. If you need a quick Star Wars fix, these class stories are absolutely worth it, and you can even forget the later stuff. Nothing beats the vanilla experience anyway. Just keep in mind, this will mostly be a single player experience which is tragic for one of the biggest budget MMORPGs of the modern era.

2. Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 started out has a buy to play MMORPG, and now has dropped its entry free entirely. You can in-fact, play the vanilla game all the way up until the still current level cap of 80. There’s almost no world-content restrictions, feel free to take part in a wide variety of activities. These include PvP, world boss events, fractals and of course, dungeons. The expansions so far offers new maps, the Living World Stories and elite class specializations, so you’ll have to pay for those if you want them. Otherwise, Guild Wars 2 offers probably the most solid amount of content for a free to play MMORPG on the market at the moment. You’ll still have restrictions like auction house limits and chat limitations, but if you can see pass that, it’s a great game to spend some time in.

3. Albion Online

For players looking for a more sandbox experience, Albion Online is perhaps your ideal choice. With inspiration drawn from games like RuneScape, Ultima and more, Albion Online let’s you play whatever you want to play, and be whoever you want to be, literally. The classless system allows you to build toward your favorite MMO fantasy archetype, and its world is true-sandbox – you’ll craft, build and kill other players to survive. If you die in a danger zone, you lose the gear that’s on you, so yes, full loot on death. It has an active Guild vs. Guild scene because territory warfare is a big deal in Albion. There is a premium subscription you can opt in for that awards bonus Fame which helps with crafting and skill progression, but for tight-budget players, who cares? You can still join a Guild, get help, and be competitive.

4. ELYON Ascent Infinite Realm

If Korean MMORPGs are what you’re after, the choices are almost endless. We settled on Bluehole and Kakao’s latest MMORPG to hit the West, Eyon. Formerly known as Ascent: Infinite Realm, Elyon is a theme park MMO that will tick all your boxes if you were a fan of games like AION, TERA and more. The game’s recent overhaul before launch has seen it introduce a more robust and dynamic action combat system, alongside revamping the narrative journey to include better story quests, dungeons and leveling. PvP is no pushover either, with the game’s two faction system that encourages open world PvP in contested maps. The biggest pro is that the game is completely free to play, and you can jump in right now.

5. Neverwinter

This one’s a little controversial, but Neverwinter makes the list for a few reasons. Based on the Dungeons and Dragons setting, Neverwinter launched in 2013, and is still going strong today. The game does a decent job at incorporating what’s new in the D&D universe into the MMORPG, be it new rulesets, races and campaigns. The combat system is pretty fun, as are the dungeons and other group content. It is free to play with no pay walls stopping you from getting to the level cap, or even to the new and latest expansions and content. However, it’s also home to one of the most heavy-handed cash shops in-game for a Western title. Expect to see dozens of different loot-box keys for the twice as many boxes you’ll pick up in-game. There will be times you’ll feel like you can’t compete in-game if you don’t spend the money (PvP), but PvE is perfectly playable for anyone on a tight budget.

With deep character customization, skill building, weapon choices, one-of-a-kind PvP, PvE and more, Elyon offers a rich, exciting experience for every play style.

Archers are a unique  and powerful ranged class which rain down deadly arrows on their enemies, draining their Energy via their remarkable abilities.The skillful application of their powers make them valued allies and dangerous foes.

In celebration of the Archer Class and its debut, Kakao Games is offering exclusive Twitch Drops from January 12-14, with a host of valuable in-game rewards available to those viewing participating Streamers. There will be an additional second series of drops celebrating the new year from January 14-24.

The new Archer Class debuts January 12th, bringing another unique ranged character to the battlefield, raining arrows down on enemies and draining their Energy via their remarkable abilities. Made by Bluehole and published by Kakao, Elyon, formerly known as Ascent: Infinite Realm, is available to download on both Steam and from the official website, no charges included. Players simply need to create a Kakao account to begin their adventures in Elyon.

]]> Elyon, the upcoming Western version of the Elyon Ascent: Infinite Realm MMORPG, has released some details about what players can expect when the CBT 2 arrives in August.

Elyon will be getting some gameplay and system tweaks that will be different from what we experienced in CBT 1, and closer to what’s already out for the South Korean version. The changes includes easier leveling from level 40 onward with more XP gained  from killing mobs, and we can also look forward to Slayer class, in addition to class balance tweaks for existing ones.

]]> Kakao Games and Krafton have announced the new name of Ascent: Infinite Realm. The game has officially been renamed to Elyon. This is to better reflect the new focus of the game with the pivot of the core design of the product.

The name Elyon is meant to evoke the adventure of exploring a new world and is also the name of the portals that players will be fighting over when striving for dominance of the world with their chosen faction.

A large portion of the content in the game is being revamped as well, based on feedback that was received from beta tests in Asia. The developers have decided to focus on combat, adventure and both faction and individual battles. The core combat system has moved away from tab-targeting to skill-based, free action combat that also has a rich array of customization.

The setting and lore of the world of Elyon has also been changed and refined to fit this new vision of the game, although the game will retain its distinct blend of technology and magic.

Elyon currently does not have a release date for the European and North American markets but is still planned to release through Kakao Games, famous for the publishing of hit-MMORPG Black Desert Online.
