Epic yesterday announced and launched a brand-new mode coming to Fortnite: introducing Fortnite Impostors. Set within the Fortnite universe, players will find themselves maintaining operation as an Agent working for the Imagined Order or sabotaging their way as an Impostor.

Built by Epic Games, Fortnite Impostors is a highly social, high-fidelity mode for a maximum of ten players. Eight Agents must work together to maintain The Bridge, a never-before-seen map, and two Impostors are set out to overtake it.

As an Agent, players will be assigned a variety of fun, unique Assignments such as repairing the Battle Bus or calibrating llamas. Cooperate, complete them all, then claim victory for IO! Impostors must masquerade and hide their identity at all costs. If required, they can sabotage Agent plans by Disabling TasksTeleporting Players, or throwing a Peely Party.

Players can start a Discussion in The Bridge’s center room. During Discussions, Agents and Impostors can share information with each other via Emotes and a Quick Chat menu. Fortnite Impostors is most fun with friends, but anyone can queue up Solo.

Fortnite Season 5 and Battle Pass Is Now Live

Fortnite has just unleashed Season 5, bringing fresh changes to the map. A viking ship, desert outpost and ancient statues are appearing on the island. What does all of this mean? In addition, a brand new four person vehicle is also available. The All Terrain Kart can ferry you and your squad across the map with ease.

A new Season means an all new Battle Pass too, packed with over 100 new rewards. It’s available right now in-game for 950 V-Bucks. Challenge your squad to a game of basketball or golf, or toss around a beach ball with friends.

You’ll instantly get two exclusive outfits, then play to level up your Battle Pass to earn up to 100 rewards worth over 25,000 V-Bucks. Similar to previous Battle Passes, you’ll be able to complete Weekly Challenges to level up and earn rewards faster. Complete enough Weekly Challenges and you’ll uncover exclusive rewards.

New to Fortnite? Here’s some new player tips from Epic Games themselves:

  • Building is your friend – Throw up a wall to stop a barrage of bullets or use those stairs to snag a chest from the attic!
  • Pick your battles – There’s no shame in finding a bush to play it safe while the battle rages on, choose your moment and strike!
  • Explore the Map – The world is full objects that will help you claim Victory Royale and progress your account. Find fresh apples to recover your health, or gnomes to complete a challenge.

We will always remember the year that Battle Royale games blew up in our faces. 2017 was the stand out year, and since then we’ve had some pretty fun games come out for the genre. If you’re looking for 5 of the very best right now, we’ve got you covered. Here are our top picks, 5 of the best Battle Royale games of 2018.

5. SOS

SOS is literally, a TV show where players ‘perform’ an alter ego, wrapped up in a Battle Royale survival game with both PvP and PvE. No, we’re no joking. Every player will be coerced into voice acting a role before a match and after a match, for viewers to vote on their performance and interact in matches by choosing who to gift supply drops to. The game started out in early access late 2017, but officially launched earlier this year and even celebrities like Snoop Dog has give the game a thumbs up.

4. H1Z1 Auto Royale

H1z1 was made popular by its original game mode, but has since joined the Battle Royale genre with its new Auto Royale mode. What makes it stand out is that players use vehicles primarily as the mode of game play. Scattered around the map are power ups, weapons and boosts for your vehicles to use against other player’s vehicles. It’s a fun and fresh twist to the genre that we ended up liking a lot.

3. Realm Royale

Relatively new to the genre, Paladin’s Realm Royale may heavily resemble Fortnite in many aspects, but don’t let that fool you. The game utilizes several mechanics that are in most cases, improvements. While it sticks to the basics of players being dropped out of a sky bus to a large map filled with buildings and loot, the core gameplay changes somewhat. When players die, they transform into a chicken for 60 seconds, and if not finished off, can revive again. There’s also horses as default mounts, in addition to crafting stations in buildings for in-match gear upgrades on the go.

2. PUBG

PlayerUknown’s Battlegrounds needs no introduction. PUBG takes the cake for putting Battle Royale on the global map in early 2017, after launching on Steam’s Early Access. It has since grown a thousand-fold, adding more customization, more maps and even more features to a game that many consider as the premium Battle Royale game – and yes you do pay to play it – of all time. Featuring more realistic graphics than it’s fiercest counterparts, PUBG’s success is shared by rivals and peers alike. With the release of the brand new Sanhok map and Event Pass offerings, we can’t wait to see where PUBG goes from here on out.

1. Fortnite

Fornite’s rise in 2017 has carried over to 2018, and it’s hard not to recommend it to players looking at getting their feet wet in the Battle Royale genre. A combination of elements has made Fortnite the highest grossing and most played MMO in recent times. Firstly, it’s free to play, has attractive cartoony graphics – which always helps – and is breaking boundaries by launching on platforms most of its competitors won’t, such as on the Nintendo Switch. The game is the perfect counter to PUBG’s gritty setting and pace, and shakes things up with it’s building element, quirky experimental modes and maps, and of course, things like emotes and other cosmetics. If you had to only play one out of the five, we’ll recommend Fortnite first.

Paragon Is Shutting Down On April 26

Epic’s MOBA Paragon is shutting down. In a website post, Epic have informed its community that the game will be gone forever come the 26th of April 2018. Over the past month or so, the notion of the game going down this path became more realistic.

Developers Epic themselves recently revealed that a majority of the devs were moved to Fortnite due to the success it has garnered since Battle Royale. As a result, Paragon is simply not getting the attention it deserves. Here’s the post below.

“Hey Everyone,

It’s with heavy hearts we’ve decided to close down Paragon.

We truly appreciate everything you’ve put into Paragon. We received many passionate ideas for where to take the game; the outpouring of thoughtful suggestions is another testament to this incredible community.

After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn’t a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable.

We didn’t execute well enough to deliver on the promise of Paragon. We have failed you — despite the team’s incredibly hard work — and we’re sorry.

To try to make this right, Epic is offering a full refund to every Paragon player for every purchase on any platform. This refund will come directly from Epic rather than your platform provider.

To request your refund, follow these steps:

  1. If you’re not playing on PC, link your Epic account (create one if necessary).
  2. If you play on PC, or have already linked your Epic account, you can request your refund here.

We’ll continue operating Paragon servers until April 26, 2018. As the player population continues to  decrease, matchmaking times and quality will further degrade.

Thank you for joining us on this journey and for your dedication to Paragon.”

Improved Features Coming To Fortnite’s Battle Royale In A Month

It’s turning out to be a pretty spectacular month for Fortnite. Its Battle Royale mode is winning lots of cookie points from both neutrals and of that other game, PUBG. To be fair, in the gaming world, the spoils can and probably should be shared.

With millions of players now soaking their teeth into Battle Royale, the developers are cranking out more updates to keep things going. In the next month or so, players can look forward to new features such as voice chat and spectating.

In addition, there will be improvements to loot density, controller support, UI functions and a heck of a lot more. Epic also has plans to add more data centers to improve ping. Can players complain? This is good stuff! Regarding timeline, here’s what epic has to say:

Our general planning horizon is around 4-6 weeks and we hope to accomplish a decent percentage of the aforementioned in that timeframe.”

When you start making that sort of money from that amount of notoriety, this is to be expected. Let’s just hope they keep their promise and roll these out soon. Here’s just a slight taste of the development road map:

Progression

  • Stats
  • Leaderboards
  • Cosmetics / loadout
  • Progression
  • Compendium / mission logs

Engine

  • Anti-cheat
  • Console performance, stability, and memory
  • Server performance and hitch optimizations
  • Reduction of initial download size and ongoing patch sizes
  • Level streaming to allow variation for cosmetics
  • Low end PC compatibility support / improvements

For the full list of stuff, check out the official post here.

PUBG vs Fortnite: Who’s Ripping Off Who?

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a big commotion going on between PUBG and Fortnite. The latter has just introduced a “battle royal” mode to the game, and many are pointing out the similarities to PUBG.

While it’s common place for developers to get inspired by others and design similar content, it’s the players that stoked the fires. Many on Reddit pointed out to PUBG developers that Fortnite has actually, copied too much. What makes this bout really interesting is that Bluehole’s Chang Han Kim has gotten involved. Here’s what he had to say: “We are contemplating further action”.

It sounds like a lawsuit is coming. I find it extremely hilarious, because we’re witnessing the modern gaming age of monopolization. Come on. Remember when World of Warcraft rose to become the most popular MMORPG in the world? I can name about 20 clones that copies a lot from WoW, and Blizzard didn’t even blink. Why bother when you know you’ve got the better product right?

Unfortunately for Bluehole, this press is bad press. Firstly, they aren’t even the ones who pioneered the Battle Royal genre. Many games do this even before PUBG took off. Just because it’s now the most played game on Steam, doesn’t mean you get to rewrite history. That’s my two cents. Share yours in the comments section below.

Fortnite Has Sold Over 500,000 Copies Before Launch

Fornite is an upcoming free to play action building game is enjoying some success prior to its Early Access launch. The game has sold over 500, 000 copies. In a recent Tweet, Creative Director Darren Sugg thanks players for their support.

Now that the game is officially in early access, the numbers are a pretty good indicator of just how popular it may be. Fortnite has been in development for over 5 years as well, so that’s good news for the developers. While early access will continue to improve the game all round, it’s launch that will be the most important factor. The game will be launching sometime in 2018, and will be completely free to play. Of course, expect to see a cash shop with in-game microtransactions. I’ll be very surprised if it doesn’t include monetization systems.

But for those that are hearing this for the first time, what is Fortnite and why the hype? The game is undeniably unique. While it may look like a clone of a team shooter in the mold of Overwatch or Paladins, it really isn’t.

Fornite is an action building game with shooter mechanics. A team of players go against horde of enemies in the form of zombies and other nasties. During the match, players can gather materials and build defenses and bunkers to use as cover. It’s a pretty interesting concoction of team PvE that we have not really seen before, and that’s why I’m excited. For more news of the game, check out the official website here.
