Fans of MapleStory will get an action-packed experience in the upcoming special crossover event with popular Evangelion anime movies, kicking off Feb. 28. The heroes of Evangelion have entered Maple World through an inter-dimensional rift, allowing players to interact with characters from the movies while taking part in various events and quests.

The Evangelion pilots are lost in their new surroundings in Maple World, so players are tasked with completing daily quests to help them navigate and become more familiar. Maplers can interact with Shinji, Rei and Asuka to earn EVA Coins to spend on limited-time items and must fend off waves of invasions from Angel enemies to save Maple World.

Other key features of the MapleStory X Evangelion event include:

• Evangelion Coin Shop – After completing Evangelion-themed events and quests, players will earn EVA Coins to trade in for limited-time items including chairs, medals and even permanent equips;
• Evangelion Style Boxes – For a limited time, players can purchase special surprise boxes with accessories and outfits to dress up their MapleStory character in Evangelion style;
• Exclusive Items – Players can also purchase special random boxes and open them up to find Evangelion-themed items including androids, as well as purchase hair coupons designed to look just like characters from Evangelion.

Maple Story will introduce a new playable character to the game, Cadena. Arriving with the Liberation of Cadena Update on November 29th, Cadena will be fun to play. For combat, feel the power of using a chain for attacks which will ravage your enemies.

“Meet brand-new character Cadena, the only survivor of Magnus’s attack on the Heliseum royal family. Raised by the Shadowdealers in the sketchy backwater town of Savage Terminal, Cadena has a streetwise edge and excels at close combat. She utilizes Thief equipment, and her main stat is Luck. Cadena is honing her skills as she prepares for revenge against Magnus. Armed with her trusty Chain, Cadena can swing to different platforms or pull an enemy in close to her. She also has the ability to master various weapon types, and can smash enemies with skills highlighting a shuriken, shotgun, and spiked bat!”

In addition to the new character, the update also brings the 5th job skill for all character job categories. There will be something for everyone to do in the update. On top of that, expect more quality of life updates  as well. Players will get more character slots, an in-game news browser and UI improvements as well.

In lighter news this week, Maple Story will be removing an NPC that resembles Donald Trump from the game. The NPC named Donald, has striking resemblance to the current POTUS and one wonders how it even got into the game.

Maple Story is an online MMO that has bee around for ages. The game has a knack for being light-heated and playing off pop-culture references whenever it can. The Donald NPC in the game has the same facial features as the U.S president and players have finally called it out.

The NPC is also a Package Deliverer and its job is to deliver items and goods. Loads of MMO’s use this feature, so that’s nothing controversial. It’s also important to note that Donald the Package Deliverer has been in the game since 2011. So this is definitely not a Trump protest for winning the election.

However in a bid to avoid any hot soup, Maple Story are going to be removing the NPC. Donald will be replaced with a new character beginning Match 1st. The functionality will remain the same. According to the developers, they are striving to keep the Maple world a politically neutral environment for all players.

As funny as it is, the reality of the situation warrants the question. Who cares? I think as players we all can enjoy a little bit of satire in our games and take a break from the real world. If anything, majority of players would have had a good laugh and just moved on.
