Old School RuneScape’s iconic God Wars Dungeon concludes today with the return of monstrous group boss Nex: The Fifth General.  The fearsome boss was originally released in January 2011, and 11 years later Old School RuneScape brings players a whole new encounter with this ancient adversary of the Second Age.

Dwelling in the Ancient Prison beneath the God Wars Dungeon, Nex can only be accessed once players have completed the Desert Treasure quest and a miniquest to unlock the Frozen Door. This iced-up access point has existed since the Dungeon was launched but has remained sealed, until now! Once inside the Prison, players must crush through a formidable army before reaching Nex herself.

The long-awaited PVM expansion can be battled in groups of up to 80, with the best players challenging themselves to take on Nex in smaller teams. Defeating Nex gives players the chance to obtain some highly valuable rewards, including Ancient Godsword, Zaryte crossbow, the iconic Torva armour set, and more. Every player who takes part in the fight has a chance of obtaining a unique item, with higher performing players bagging more loot.

All new content introduced to Old School RuneScape must have the backing of 75% of the community. Nex: The Fifth General was put to a player poll, and it passed attracting more than 57,000 votes with 90% approving the boss.

This is members-only content, become a member now at www.oldschool.runescape.com to start preparing for a climactic showdown in the new year. In addition, Nex will also be featured in the highly anticipated Leagues III, launching on January 19th.

A Kingdom DividedOld School RuneScape’s 150th quest, has arrived in-game today for PC, Mac, Steam, iOS, and Android players, complete with full cross-platform play. As the eighth instalment in Old School RuneScape’s lore-packed Great Kourend quest series, this experienced-level quest continues the Kourend Council storyline, which has been building for more than four years.

In A Kingdom Divided, players go behind the Kingdom of Great Kourend’s façade of peace and prosperity to unravel allegations of corruption at the heart of the ruling Kourend Council.  However, the Council’s political games are not the only thing players have to contend with. There’s also a deeper conspiracy, hundreds of years in the making, and a darker power is now gathering in the kingdom – one that could change the face of Gielinor forever.

Rob Hendry, Executive Producer, Old School RuneScape, said:

“With some of the richest lore in Old School RuneScape, players loved Great Kourend when the kingdom hosted our first competitive Leagues event, and now it’s the perfect place for a quest that explores conspiracy and corruption within its ruling council. While A Kingdom Divided is an experienced-level quest, Old School already has more than 700,000 players who have completed the questline’s previous seven instalments and are ready to take on the investigation.

“And, as with all new content introduced to Old School, the addition of A Kingdom Divided arrives with player approval. We polled the quest with players, and it passed with a high approval rating, attracting more than 30,000 votes and with 92.7% voting for its inclusion. Now, we’re keen to see how players tackle the machinations of the Kourend Council to ensure that Great Kourend is a kingdom divided no more.”

Completing A Kingdom Divided rewards players with the much-anticipated unlocking of 26 new spells for the Arceuus Spellbook, in addition to two quest points, a 10,000-experience lamp, an increase to 60 charges in Kharedst’s Memoirs, and enables a respawn point at Kourend Castle.

As the content arrives in Old School RuneScape, the living game’s login screen has also been given an A Kingdom Divided-themed refresh and now features the winning player-designed art from a recent Old School community contest, where the winner’s design attracted more than 30,000 votes.

A Kingdom Divided is now available in Old School RuneScape for PC, Mac, Steam, iOS and Android, with cross-platform play across all platforms.

Old School RuneScape debuted on the Steam Store today, extending the nostalgic MMORPG’s cross-platform play by enabling players to link their existing RuneScape account to Steam and carry on playing with progress saved across Steam, the PC and Mac desktop client as well as iOS and Android mobile editions.

The game’s arrival on Steam comes in the week that it marked its eighth year as a living game since launch on 22nd February 2013. The game’s anniversary is being celebrated with an in-game birthday event, which rewards players with a new cosmetic banana cape. With a vibrant community behind it, existing Old School’s players are now gathering in Lumbridge to welcome new players arriving via Steam with a massive meet-and-greet and a community playthrough of the eighth birthday event.

The first ever This Is Old School RuneScape Blog published today on its Steam Hub, delivering a useful walkthrough guide for those yet to join the world of Gielinor, or for returning players that haven’t paid a visit in a while.

Rob Hendry, Executive Producer, Old School RuneScape said:

“Old School has something for everyone, and this past year we’ve seen it hit new heights: it’s seen the largest number of concurrent players, most members ever, and millions of active players across both the members edition and those who enjoy the game for free on both desktop and mobile. Old School is ever-growing and thanks to a vibrant and empowered community behind it, adventure is now calling for Steam users and I know that our existing players are ready to welcome the new arrivals.”

Old School RuneScape arrives on the PC platform complete with a full suite of Steam achievements, badges, emoticons, and trading cards featuring the game’s most beloved characters and items. In addition, the game offers launch-exclusive content for those who become members via Steam.

The launch on Steam comes as part of Jagex’s mission to continue to make the RuneScape universe accessible to more players around the world. Old School RuneScape will continue to offer both its free-to-play and members versions on Steam, the latter of which delivers an expanded world complete with more characters, skills, storylines, and quests for players to immerse themselves in.

The news follows RuneScape’s successful debut on Steam, which welcomed more players than ever to the world of Gielinor. It has received over 90% positive reviews and 1.85 million unique views on Steam launch live stream.

The epic PvP game mode, Soul Wars, debuts in Old School RuneScape today. Soul Wars was introduced in RuneScape in 2009 and, since Old School RuneScape is based on a 2007 build of the game, it has never been available in the hugely popular retro version of the role-playing living game – until now.

This PvP game mode sees up to 120 players competing to win by gaining as many Avatar kills as possible. Players race to earn victory points, which are exchanged for major in-game rewards. Soul Wars is also an effective place for players to level up their Combat skills.

Soul Wars wouldn’t be complete without fan favourite warrior mage Nomad and this iconic RuneScape character is heading to Soul Wars to host the minigame once again – just like he did for the original version 12 years ago.

Soul Wars is considered a classic piece of legacy content from RuneScape that has often been requested by the community to be included in Old School RuneScape. In fact, when put to an official Old School RuneScape community poll it attracted more than 50,000 player votes, with a massive 83% of voters requested its inclusion in the game.

The addition of Soul Wars opens-up the potential for additional RuneScape legacy content to be introduced to Old School RuneScape in the future. For players looking to see their favourite content from that era of RuneScape return, keep an eye on future Old School RuneScape polls.

Soul Wars also arrives in Old School RuneScape as developer and publisher Jagex celebrates 20 years of RuneScape, which first went live in 2001, with year-long programme of anniversary content, quests, and stories to mark both Old School RuneScape and RuneScape’s enduring success.

Soul Wars is sure to appeal to PvPers, lovers of minigames and nostalgic RuneScape players alike. So, grab your friends and get ready to prove that you’re the superior fighter.

The world of Old School RuneScape has grown once again today with the launch of Darkmeyer. This new content release features a dramatic quest – Sins of the Father – which provides the opportunity to unlock the gates to the vampyric city of Darkmeyer.

Sins of the Father takes players on the bloodstained path of a long-running storyline that sees freedom fighters, the Myreque, attempt to free the dark swamplands of Morytania from the evil grasp of feared vampyre leader Lord Drakan.

Completing Sins of the Father opens the previously inaccessible city of Darkmeyer. Within its walls, players will discover a multitude of new shops, amenities, enemies and skilling methods, including the Hallowed Sepulchre agility course and the Essence Mine.

  • The Essence Mine offers players a new way to train the Runecrafting skill by utilising the mysterious power of the mineral deposits in Darkmeyer.
  • The Hallowed Sepulchre is a new minigame where players can train their Agility skill by traversing the boobytrapped crypt which houses the long-dead citizens of the ancient city of Hallowvale.

Mike Donatelli, Product Director of Old School RuneScape, said:

“The Myreque is a dramatic storyline and one which is close to many players’ hearts. It is one of the oldest and longest quest series in game, and players have enjoyed unravelling the history of the vampyres and the elusive Lord Drakan. As always, we have collaborated closely with the Old School RuneScape community throughout the development of Darkmeyer, with an emphatic vote of ~90% of 55,000+ polled players backing the quest.”
