Survival MMO Rend is launching worldwide on PC for an introductory price* of $9.99 USD. Originally released as a Steam Early Access (EA) game on July 31, 2018, Rend has seen significant updates and improvements during the eight months of its Early Access development – all addressing top player requests, interests and concerns – including 50+ game patches and nine major content updates that introduced new game modes, artifact weapons, biomes, creatures, player abilities, siege weapons, and more.

“We said from the beginning we would remove the Early Access tag from Rendwithin a year of hitting Steam,” said Jeremy Wood, co-founder and CEO, Frostkeep Studios. “We introduced Rend as a fully developed game experience with room for growth and advancement so we could work alongside players to determine the best direction and evolution for the game. Today’s final version of Rend is the direct result of this valuable feedback and we couldn’t be more grateful for the support of our players, community and partners throughout the development process.”

Rend takes inspiration from the motifs of ancient Norse mythology to bring players a colorful world of epic battles and survival-based gameplay. Players worldwide can now choose to play solo or join one of three factions as they work with teammates to survive in the brutal shattered remains of Midgard.

As a final release title, Rend holds a unique position in the survival space with its RPG mechanics, sandbox elements, factional combat, and win/loss conditions. The game was created by a team of 18 developers at Frostkeep Studios, many who had previously worked together on other AAA games and projects like the original World of Warcraft, Overwatch, League of Legends, WildStar, God of War and more.

*Introductory launch price is valid until April 26, 2019 before returning to the regular price of $29.99 USD

MMO Rend Begins First Public Alpha Test

Starting today, select players worldwide can participate in the invite-only PC public alpha test for Rend, the upcoming faction-based fantasy survival game from Frostkeep Studios, the new independent game studio whose founders boast more than 50 years of combined experience on some of the world’s most popular games, including the original World of Warcraft, Overwatch, League of Legends, WildStar, and more.

Players can register for a chance to be invited to the public alpha on the official website. Participants in the Rend alpha will have the opportunity to provide direct feedback to the development team and to help shape the game on a fundamental level as it progresses through early testing.

“Our goal at the start of this project was to continuously grow and improve Rend by gathering direct feedback from our players every step of the way,” said Jeremy Wood, co-founder and CEO, Frostkeep Studios. “As we lovingly craft this game with the help of our players, this project remains just as much theirs as it is ours, and this public alpha marks a significant milestone as we offer even more players around the world the opportunity to enter the world of Rend and join our community.”

Rend combines elements of role-playing games (RPG) and other genres into a survival gaming experience never seen before. Challenging traditional survival game tropes, Rend introduces factional combat, RPG mechanics, sandbox elements, win/loss conditions, and massive, culmination battle experiences to evolve the genre.

Rend will launch on Steam Early Access later this year. For more information, please visit the game’s official Steam page.

Rend Reveals Class System

Last month we were excited to hear about Rend. The open world survival game with action mechanics looks to add something fresh to the genre.

This week, we get an exclusive peek at the game’s class system. Rend will have 4 classes at launch that players can pick from. The interesting thing is that you don’t select your class at the character creation screen. Unlike other games and MMORPGs, every player here will start as the same blank canvas.

The selection of classes will take place at level 2. By then, players will have enough talent points to spend in one of 4 class paths. These paths are the Assassin, Soldier, Survivalist and Mystic. What’s cool is that players will have enough talent points to spend in two trees.

That means that you can pick two class paths, and they play differently depending on your primary and secondary selections. So a player who picks Soldier as the primary and Mystic as secondary will have a different experience compared to a player who picks the reverse.

It’s a unique class system that not many modern games do, save for Grim Dawn. Advancements will mean ascending path tiers, which of course will require more talent points. Therefore, earning experience will be central to how you “level” up your chosen paths which is standard affair.

The classes themselves are pretty much self explanatory to the game. Assassins are for the stealthy, moving quickly around the map and dealing lots of burst damage.

Soldiers are for players who enjoy being tanks. You carry more weight and can take more damage than the rest. Survivalists are handyman, capable of being flexible in the game. Crafters and gatherers will enjoy this path.

Finally, Mystics are the secretive class, and the best way to describe it is magic. They are the support class of Rend, able to heal and do cool things to help the faction and group.

New Trove Launch for Consoles.

Good news Trove fans. The awesome Sandbox MMORPG is about to launch for PS4 and Xbox one. Trion Worlds, the developer, has released the game in 2015, and after long months of beta testing they are finally launching it for consoles this week. The Trove Launch for Consoles will sure bring new audiences to the bricksy universe. If you haven’t heard about Trove then you should know that this game is epic.

As a sandbox MMORPG, you have a lot of room for customization. There are 11 different classes that enable many play styles and the randomly changing universes are very interesting. The player generated content is the true treat of the game. There is just so much content that this game is never boring. However, the minus of the game is the grinding. You have to grind a lot in order to improve. The cash store is also relatively modest and buying stuff won’t necessarily help your character by much. In short, it’s a really cool game

If you own a PS4 or a Xbox one than you should try it. It’s free for download and the community around trove is growing rapidly. In my opinion, the PS4 launch will help the game reach new audiences and steal some users from their ultimate nemesis, Minecraft.

The similarities between Minecraft and Trove are a bit disturbing, but with Minecraft selling for 2.5 Billion dollars to Microsoft it’s not surprising that competition will try to mimic the block phenomena. Many of the people in the Trove community are refugees of Minecraft, they get something out of Trove that they couldn’t in Minecraft. Either way, both games are cool and worth a try.

What do you think? are you excited about the trove launch for consoles? please share your thoughts with us

Former WoW Developers Announce New Faction Based Survival MMO Rend

Brace yourselves for Rend everyone. Frostkeep Studios are brand new developers formed by former World of Warcraft developers. This week, we hear that their debut project is a faction-based survival game called Rend.

This isn’t your customary survival game either. So try and banish the thought of Ark:Survival Evolved or Conan Exiles. In Rend, players join one of three factions that in it for domination and survival. The setting takes place on a world that is dominated by hordes of demons called the Lost Ones.

Upon selecting a faction, players must now build bases to defend themselves and their faction from these demons. This can be done done through several progression mechanics we expect in survival games. There’s crafting, harvesting and more to do in this semi-open world game.

The catch is, it’s not just the demons that you’ll be up against. Other players who have joined the two other factions different from yours are also the enemy. Each faction’s ultimate goal is to work towards winning the race for survival, but there are no details on the meta objectives yet.

I’m guessing that server games will take place over ‘seasons’, where winners are declared based on how much is accomplished over a period of time. What is interesting is that all factions can come out as losers too. I find the concept to be pretty intriguing even at this early stage.

Rend sounds a lot like a PVP based survival MMO and that’s fine. Based on the information and screenshots from the website, it does look and feel great too. There’s medieval undertones mixed with steampunk, considering you can use hand guns and other modern weapons.

Let’s wait and see what more details will be coming out. In the mean time, let us know your thoughts!
