In Overlord, ambitious leaders will unlock a new level of empire management and realize their grand designs for the universe. Specialized vassal roles will allow players to either elevate the planets within their realms to new heights of glory, or keep them in line and under control. New enclaves will present unique opportunities and challenges, and a selection of new megastructures will offer ways to project power further and faster. Five new Origins, new music, and more will be included when Overlord launches later this year.

“The stories our players have told through the last six years of Stellaris never fail to amaze us,” said Stephen Muray, Game Director of Stellaris at Paradox Development Studio. “We’ve seen empires rise and fall, unite and destroy, and clash overtly or covertly with their galactic neighbors. With Overlord, we want to give players more options and opportunities to realize their own ‘space operas,’ build a universe full of grand houses or squabbling vassals, and see how long they can hold power over what they’ve created. • New Ascension Perk – Hydrocentric: When you spend most of your time underwater, you figure out cheaper and faster methods of modifying your environment. Terraform planets into oceanic worlds, or make them bigger by harvesting water from other planets. Build the sandcastles of space!
• New ship set with a sleek look, designed to help you yacht your way through space.
• New Aquatics Dragon: A new, majestic space dragon will now grace the stars.
• New Advisor: Sail the stars alongside the Seafarer advisor voice, inspired by high-seas adventure fiction.
• 15 new aquatics portraits to help you embrace your fishy new existence.

Today also marks the release of the completely free 3.2 “Herbert” patch, named after renowned science fiction author Frank Herbert. This patch notably buffs the Humanoids Species Pack expansion by adding the Pompous Purists Civic, as well as base game changes which bring an improved ship browser to the base game, a greater variety of anomalies, and AI behavioral changes. Whether one chooses to take power through diplomacy or subterfuge, or snuff out the stars one by one as they affect their most maniacal laugh, players can expect more control than they ever thought possible with new features:

• Become the Crisis: Become the fire that spreads across the galaxy, threatening its very existence. As an empire becomes more and more menacing, it will unlock powerful bonuses to finish a hopeless galactic stalemate on your own terms. If the rest of the galaxy can’t stop it in time, players can unleash enough power to end all of existence!
• Galactic Custodian: It’s up to gamers to campaign for the Galactic Community to declare them a Custodian, granting emergency powers to combat the Crisis. Use these extraordinary abilities to bring the galaxy back from the edge of destruction and restore order. When the crisis is defeated one may choose to relinquish their powers…or keep them, and form a new Galactic Imperium.
• Espionage: Knowledge is power; use new tools to spy on enemies (or friends). Deploy Envoys to lead covert Operations and counterintelligence behind enemy borders. Lies and deceit will throw your enemies off your scent while you learn their deepest secrets.
  • As Infiltration Level grows players will unlock new operations, such as Sabotage Starbase, Acquire Assets or Steal Tech. Turn allies against each other through the use of smear campaigns and by instigating diplomatic incidents. Play it right, and they’ll be none the wiser: what enemies don’t know will hurt them.  
• New Ship Set: Nemesis includes new ships inspired by some of the most imposing empires in science fiction. Whether you’re taking control of the galaxy or wiping it out, you’ll look as powerful as you feel.
