Get ready to headbang with the latest collaboration between Swedish metallers, Sabaton, and World of Tanks. The two facets of heavy metal are about to really put on a show. Kicking off in full force with the ‘Steel Commanders’ music video that is an essential addition to every tanker’s battle music playlist, the band will also be staging a massive in-game event that will reward tankers with a little bit of history: the first-ever Tier IX Premium tank!

“It’s been a great experience working with the World of Tanks and Wargaming guys on this huge project. Together, we made an epic music video for ‘Steel Commanders’ and it’s the perfect way to kick off our massive collaboration,” states Joakim Brodén, lead vocalist of Sabaton. “We’re proud to be part of this brand new in-game event that features the first-ever Tier IX Premium tank as the ultimate prize, as well as us as crew members!”

Apart from the music video, also starring the GRAMMY Award-nominated virtuoso cellist Tina Guo, Sabaton are headlining a new in-game event: Spirit of War. The event will see tankers take on challenges to reap the utmost reward: the game’s first-ever Tier IX Premium tank, the Strv K. Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed it in the ‘Steel Commanders’ video, and it will be manned by a Sabaton crew that includes Brodén, who recorded a custom voiceover that’s full of Easter eggs for fans to discover. Once tankers earn their Strv K, they will be tasked with getting the exclusive ‘Spirit of War’ 3D style.

“We’ve really enjoyed working with the Sabaton guys and we’re happy to have them onboard this project,” states Max Chuvalov, Publishing Director, World of Tanks. “Our players love their music, and we complement each other as we are both fascinated with military history. Plus, we hope the new tune will inspire tankers to go that extra mile for the victory.”

Even if players ultimately do not finish the marathon, they will earn plenty of goodies along the way and each stage they clear will allow them a set 10% discount on purchasing the Strv K, and the same is true for the 3D style. The Strv K also features its own Sabaton soundtrack and will allow you to earn bonds in Random Battles, so it’s a vehicle no tanker will want to miss out on, if not for owning a piece of World of Tanks history. The Spirit of War event will run from August 27 through September 6.

One of the biggest updates in recent history has arrived in World of Tanks. Update 1.13 sees major reworking of core mechanics, such as HE shells and SPG (self-propelled gun) countermeasures, as well as other changes and additions, such as a brand-new mode, the eagerly anticipated Season 5 of Battle Pass and interface improvements.

The heaviest change that players will notice is the new capabilities they now have to combat those vehicles that rain shells from the sky. SPGs have changed a great deal since their inception in World of Tanks, and it became clear more artillery countermeasures were needed to level the playing field somewhat. With the latest update, tankers will now have 3 tactical features at their disposal: Sound Detection is a new Commander-only perk which will warn those in the danger zone that an artillery shell is incoming through a special indicator, brighter shell tracers will allow players to better gauge from where an SPG has fired and the field of fire markers will let tankers know where an SPG recently fired (this marker will appear on the minimap for 10 seconds).

However, SPGs aren’t missing out on the fun either. Artillery now have three available shell types, all with their own purpose in battle, trajectory and velocity, granting a greater variety of tactical opportunities to arty players. Two of these shell types will not stun vehicles, which will greatly reduce the overall stun time seen in battle. Additionally, the SPG ammo interface has been updated and the Intuition perk has been reworked, meaning quicker changes of shells for all vehicle types.

Update 1.13 also sees the introduction of the reworked HE (high-explosive) shell mechanics on the main server. Now, HE shells will deal damage at the point of impact, meaning that damage will be calculated at the point of contact with the armor, unlike before which was based on a shell-burst sphere. Those playing heavily armored vehicles will certainly appreciate this change, as HE shells will inflict less damage to their frontal armor from now on. Additionally, they will also now be able to penetrate screens, tracks and the wheels of wheeled vehicles as well as insignificant and/or destructible objects, like fences, for example.

And there’s still more coming with Update 1.13. A brand-new game mode, Recon Mission, will allow tankers to test maps that are in the later stages of development, a collection of Premium vehicles and Clan Wars reward tanks are being rebalanced (as well as the Minsk map), Season 5 of Battle Pass is ready to challenge players, and a selection of interface improvements have been introduced.

Icons for many decades, G.I. JOE and the villainous forces of Cobra are making their way into World of Tanks to do battle! From today, tankers will be able to get their hands on two extra special 3D styles: one for the TS-5 (G.I. JOE Team) and one for the T-54 first prototype (Cobra). Alongside these unique 3D styles, players will also get legendary decals featuring the G.I. JOE M.O.B.A.T. and the Cobra H.I.S.S., both iconic to kids around the world.

But there’s more. Players will be able to take on a special set of missions to earn unique emblems and inscriptions, as well as Personal Reserves. For pledging allegiance to the good guys, tankers will get the famous G.I. JOE logo as an inscription for their vehicles, whereas those who side with the evil forces will get Cobra emblems. These missions will run from today until March 26th.

Additionally, starting March 15th, a new Battle Pass season will be starting in World of Tanks. The fourth season will run until June 15th and features some key differences when compared to previous iterations. Season 4 will be made up of 3 chapters, each with 50 stages, and the main reward of each chapter will be a collectable 3D style for the Object 705A, the T110E3 and the 121 medium tank, respectively. Also, unlike previous seasons, tankers will be able to earn Battle Pass points in Random Battles, Ranked Battles and Steel Hunter, as well as through Daily Missions. There’s plenty more to be discovered, but World of Tanks is keeping some secrets up their sleeves for now.

At the same time, Steel Hunter 2021 will also be kicking off, running until March 21st. For the first time, Steel Hunter won’t have its own progression. Instead, players will receive Battle Pass points, which will be based on a tanker’s battle results and for completing battle missions within Steel Hunter. Tankers will be able to see just how many points they reaped in the Battle Results screen.

The beginning of a new year is the right time to start a new journey with fresh content and features deploying in World of Tanks. Update 1.11.1 brings a new sub-branch of Italian heavy tanks with an improved autoreloading mechanic to the game. The updated Platoon system will allow you to find gaming buddies easier (without being limited to friends and contacts), and a few interface improvements make the gameplay even more enjoyable.

The new Italian heavy branch begins with the Tier VII Carro d’assalto P.88 and consists of four vehicles with great gun depression angles, well-armored turrets, and stylish exteriors. The top animal in the pack, the Tier X Rinoceronte (‘Rhinoceros’), reminds us that Italy is famous for its automotive design traditions. A distinctive feature introduced with the new sub-branch is the improved autoreloading mechanic. As well as being able to choose between firing intermittent shots or salvos, with Tier VIII–X Italian heavies you get a rebate (up to 50%) for the reloading time of your next shell—if you had to shoot just before an extra round would be fully loaded into the clip.

Along with the new branch, four sets of battle missions are being introduced, each one dedicated to a separate tank in the sub-branch and giving out an Ancient Roman-themed emblem, inscription, and decal as rewards, with the Rinoceronte set also yielding the “Testudo Formation” 2D style. The style fits Italian vehicles only, and all other customization elements can be applied to any vehicle. Each mission set is to be completed by its ‘own’ new Italian heavy, but all of them are also doable in the Rinoceronte or in the Tier VIII Premium tank, the Bisonte C45.

“Around 3 years ago, in May 2018, we revealed the Italian tech tree, with Gianluigi Buffon as an ambassador,” says Max Chuvalov, World of Tanks Publishing Director. “The players spent some time mastering the new mechanic, and they really liked the Italian tanks. Now we’re adding new researchable vehicles that not only complement the Italian tree, but bring their own distinctive features, in order to make the experience even more diverse and exciting. Take these awesome machines for a spin and enjoy the highly-tactical gameplay!”

Also coming with Update 1.11.1 is the Platoon 2.0 system. Available for Random Battles, it allows you to find battle buddies with ease: it’s fully automated, and the search can be performed using filters you apply. Moreover, you can team up with a friend the old-fashioned way and find a third partner using the new system if you want, and once the Platoon is complete, you’ll see the allied vehicles side by side with your current ride in your Garage.

The interface improvements that will arrive along with the update continue the tradition of integrating the best solutions from popular UI mods into the client. In the game settings, you can now activate such options as the Proximity spotting circle (showing the radius of ‘unconditional’ spotting on the mini-map) and a repair timer for damaged vehicle modules.

Fight tactically in the new Italians alongside your new buds, earn the new Roman style and don’t let any brutes stab you in the back! If you need more info on Update 1.11.1, take a look here:

Wargaming has announced that on March 5th, a major update is coming to World of Tanks: Mercenaries. Update 4.9 kicks off the madness on March 5 as World of Tanks: Mercenaries welcomes Italy as the game’s twelfth nation! Hot off the heels of the Polish nation, the Italian Tech Tree will launch towards the end of the month. Before that, it will be heralded by the release of a new Premium Italian hero tank, the Ariete Progetto, a wonderfully mobile vehicle that’s fitted with a powerful auto-reloading gun. The update also introduces many more improvements, including greater control over replay highlights, new camouflages suggested by the community, the return of the fan-favorite maps Berlin Winter and Icebound, and lots more.

Fans of real-time strategy games will be delighted by the return of Commander Mode on March 5! In this mode, players can assume the role of the Commander to give direct orders to units from a birds-eye view, or team up with other players as a tanker to win through the strength of teamwork. Wargaming’s developers have introduced a host of fan-requested changes to the newest iteration of the mode, including keyboard and mouse support. The new control option promises a rush of nostalgia for players of classic PC strategy games, and a new dimension of point-and-click precision to help win the fight!

From March 15-17, the Luck of the Irish will shine on tankers in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day! Every 10 victories achieved over this weekend will reward players with a random loot drop, with up to 100,000 Silver available to earn per drop.

At the end of the month, players are invited to leave the Earth and set their sights on the stars… Wargaming Chicago-Baltimore has prepared another of its famous event modes! In the spirit of April Fool’s Day, and from March 29 until April 1, Earth’s tankers can prepare for all-out interstellar combat in Lunar Combat Mode! In this event, players wage war on the extra-terrestrial battlefields of the Moon and Mars using the M24 Lunar, a war machine built for low-gravity combat. Since we’re not playing by Earth rules, respawning is enabled, so the battle continues even after tanks get knocked out of action!

And finally, the third and final phase of the Winter Games campaign is active until April 1. Players can fight to earn 30 tiers of rewards from in-game Ops, including XP Boosts, Gold and Silver, Free XP, and exclusive Medals. Winter Games Charlie is the third and final phase of 2019’s first campaign, and players who complete it can get a massive discount on the electrifying Thunderbolt, a soon-to-be-released Premium tank. Look out for the Spring Games, which will commence on April 2!

Sweedish Tanks Rolls Into World of Tanks For Consoles

World of Tanks players on consoles rejoice, you now have new tanks and tech trees! World of Tanks are rolling in the Sweedish vehicles to the game for PS3, PS4 and Xbox as well. There’s over 20 new light, medium and heavy tanks on top of destroyers.

If you’re new and just jumping in, you can start the journey with the tier 1 Strv fm/21 light tank. From there, the entire new Sweedish tech tree is there for you to explore. The new tank destroyers (TD) also comes with a couple of new modes:

DRIVE MODE

This mode is mainly for traveling — when active, the TD has full mobility, but limited gun performance. Its mode indicator is green with two chevrons, and shows how long it takes to get into Siege mode.

SIEGE MODE

Once you find a suitable position and are ready to fire, switch to Siege. In this mode, mobility is reduced, but you’ll get full control of the gun. As an added bonus, if you have a Camouflage Net or Binocular Telescope, they stay active during hull rotation. Its mode indicator is red with crosshairs, and shows how long it takes to switch back to Drive mode.

In addition to new tanks, WoT also has a brand new map, the Murovanka Blizzard. With high winds and blinding snow, your tanks may not be able to light up enemies easily. For all the new information, check out the official post here.

World of Tanks vs World of Warships: Which One Suits You Better?

World of Tanks and World of Warships are both flagship titles from developers Wargaming. When it comes to authentic war PvP games featuring period-accurate vehicles and ships, no one does it better. So if you haven’t played either, you’re probably wondering which one suits you best. You’ve come to the right article. Here’s the run-down on what to expect from both games if you’re looking for a new PvP time filler.

The Basics

Before we get to the nitty-gritty, let’s go over what these games are all about. Simply put, you are the commander of a tank or warship. You have full access and control to your vehicles via the garage. You’ll be able to upgrade your tanks and ships with better armaments, weaponry and crew. When beginning, you’ll start with a select variety of Tier 1 vehicles, which begins your journey. The vehicles can be selected from a nation’s roster, so you’ll see choices such as Russia, China, Britain, United States and Germany. Expect to see period appropriate vehicles, from WWII to modern day. You will need to take part in PvP matches and depending on your performance, can earn varying amount of experience points and currency. These will be used for research to obtain higher tier vehicles, and the currency will be used to buy ammunition and vehicles too.

So far, pretty straightforward yes? Let’s go over battles. Standard mode PvP matches pits two teams of 15 (Tanks) or 12 (Warships) against each other. Your objective will be to destroy all players on the opposite side or capture their base to win. Both games now have a variety of modes with different objectives should you wish to break the monotony. Matches will be your primary source of daily fun to earn your XP to progress and research.

Gameplay

When it comes to gameplay, both games offers that unique style that other online games can’t match. You’re literally controlling and driving your tanks and ships in battle. Players are given full control over everything – from steering, aiming and pulling the trigger. It’s hugely satisfying. The one key difference between the two is the setting obviously. Tanks is primarily a land battle game, while Warships takes place on sea. Both have similar aspects within a match, such as earning points for spotting/scouting, long range artillery strikes and more.

Between the two, World of Tanks have been around longer, so expect it to have a larger player base. There’s plenty of players online no matter which region you select. This makes finding matches quick and easy. World of Warships is the newer title, and as such it’s still growing. However, Warships is the more refined of the two. Wargaming has taken all its experience from making Tanks and used it in Warships. As a result, the gameplay is a lot more modern, integrating player feedback from World of Tanks too. For example, in Warships, you get XP for capturing points too, which you don’t on Tanks.

Pacing is another key difference when it comes to these two. Matches on World of Tanks are meant to be fast paced and all action. Each match can vary for players, lasting the full 15 minutes or you could get knocked out in 3 minutes, at which point you simply head back to the garage and queue for another. World of Warships slows things down by just a hair. Navigating the seas for battles in large navy cruisers isn’t like riding a speedboat, and thus it feels authentic with its pacing. Of course there are faster, smaller ships for scouting too, but expect the pace of matches to be different here.

Weather Mechanics

What sets these two games further apart are the unique mechanics that affects matches too. In World of Warships, weather is a factor that plays a role in your success or failures in mid to high tier matches. Random cyclones and storms will be introduced at different points during a match, which reduces the spotting range of ships. It’s a pretty realistic feature that sadly, World of Tanks does not incorporate.

The Grind

If you’re not familiar with the two games, then pay attention to this point. Because there are so many Tanks and Ships to earn, research and buy beginning from the lowest tier to the top, it can take a long time to get there. Hence, the grind. Therefore, which game’s grind is more accommodating to new players?

In World of Tanks, the grind is very noticeable early on. The starting Tier 1 and Tier 2 tanks (stock tanks) are incredibly under-powered early on which is expected, and the XP gains comes painfully slow. Because of how matchmaking works, each match will pair you against tanks of different Tiers. So you can expect to be getting hammered an awful lot and you’ll be playing a lot of matches in the low tier brackets before you feel like you’re progressing or making a difference. Once you get to Tier 4 and move from a Light tank to a Medium tank, things get a lot better, but again, it takes a long time to get there.

In World of Warships, it’s easy to see that they want to make it a more streamlined experience for players coming from Tanks. The early tier and stock ships are actually competitive. Not all of them are of course, but the XP gains are a lot more friendly here, as compared to World of Tanks, there are multiple ways to gain them besides just spotting and damaging.

Social Aspects & Community

Community are important for online games like these, and both have social systems in place to foster your gaming groups and the wider player base. Both games have guild or clan systems where like minded players can join a company, where you can chat and form groups. You can also form a smaller 3-man platoon for matches, but unlike in World of Tanks, platoons in Warships do get its own separate chat box. This is a feature that the developers have added from player feedback.

As for the community itself, World of Tanks is the veteran of the two, but its community can vary. Frankly, it can get toxic sometimes, as there are plenty of elite players around that’s been playing for years since release. It can be hard for new players to integrate, but that’s entirely down to your mileage. And World of Warship’s community is still growing, and it’s a lot less hostile. On their good days however, both communities are welcoming and it’s rewarding to be a part of.

Graphics & Aesthetics

While World of Warships is the newer title, the graphics aren’t that far off from World of Tanks. Both run on a similar engine and the tanks, ships and map landscapes look good on any setting. As is the case with these games, it’s more about performance rather than looks. From a UI point of view, World of Tanks has the better layout – it’s easy to navigate and simple to understand. World of Warship’s UI is a little cluttered especially in the Shipyard (Garage), but you will get used to it over time.

Which One Should You Play?

Now that you know a little bit more about these games, which one should you play? If you prefer a faster-paced and chaotic land based battles, go with World of Tanks. If you like a slower, more strategic and laid back approach, World of Warships is the better option. It is also a lot more modern with its systems, such as offering players more ways to gain more XP and reducing the grinds somewhat. But ultimately, go with what you want and really, the correct answer is to just play both! It’s free anyway!

New Currency For Ranked Battles Coming To World Of Tanks

Competitive World of Tanks players will be happy to note that good updates are coming. Beginning with the Update 9.19, the game will introduce the new Rank Battles mode. This will feature superior match making against ranked opponents for balanced matches.

Besides that, a brand new currency, Bonds, will be available to purchase better Equipment and Directives. Bonds are exclusive to Rank Battles, and players will get access to better equipment. There are lots of upgrades that players will drool over. One of them includes an impressive  7.5% increase to all crew skills.

These changes breathes fresh life in WoT’s competitive scene. Because of the Bonds system, there is now better incentives to get stuck in as well. Here is a direct quote from Wargaming regarding the new equipment system:

“Depending on the type, Improved Equipment costs from 3,000 to 5,000 Bonds, while Directives are priced at 2–12 Bonds. To put it into perspective, Bonds are rewarded at the end of each stage, with the amount you earn tied directly to the rank you’re at, as well as by the end of the Season, with the amount depending on your final standing in the leaderboard.”

For more on the new update, head on over to the official website here.

Huge Scale 30V30 Combat Coming To World of Tanks

World of Tanks players looking for a larger scale tank warfare will be excited to hear that it is coming. Huge 30v30 tank battles are currently hitting the public test realm. Wargaming.net are accepting tester applications, but there isn’t information on a deadline just yet.

This is pretty significant for WoT, as it finally listened to years of player feedback. There’s nothing wrong with the current lineup of match modes. But when it comes to tank warfare, the larger the battles, the better.

The new game mode is called Frontline, and Wargaming has partnered with Bongfish to develop the core elements. The mode will feature three 5 player platoons on each side. The objectives seem to be an offense versus defense mode of some sort too.

As for vehicles, Frontline will be playable in Tier X and Tier VIII Light Tanks. This isn’t the final decision however, and is only just for the beta test. According to MMORPG, the battle map is going to be pretty darn vast. More than 9km2 will be explorable and is separated into nine different zones where combat can break out.

It will be really interesting to see how the offense versus defense mechanics will play out on this huge map. To apply as a Frontline tester, head on over to the official World of Tanks website.
