ICYMI: Chronicles of Elyria Delayed By Over A Year
We can all be forgiven for setting Chronicles of Elyria aside. Those of us who invested in this Kickstarter MMORPG expect the devs will just blaze along while we get on with our lives. Game development however, never works as intended. In a ‘state of the game’ post on the website end of July, we now know that the final release will be pushed back. It’s no longer coming out in 2018. It will likely be out in 2019 or later in 2020. How did this happen?
According to the post, CoE grossly underestimated its resources. They think that having an eager fan base on top of a successful crowd fund campaign is all they need. Again, it’s never quite the case. They are falling short on all their development milestones. The post even says that they can’t attract some of the industry’s best talent to join the project. Heck, they had a one-man engineer team for the entirety of 2016. No way a game is going to be made with such a bare bones team.
I will commend them for their transparency however. The developers have always shared their updates constantly, and that’s a good thing. But unfortunately, those who want it early are not getting it. Is 2019/2020 viable? It’s really hard to say. Gamers have short attention spans and who knows where the MMO industry will be by then.
