The Secret World Will Be Relaunched With Free Story Content In Q1 2017
It looks like The Secret World will not remain a secret for much longer. Funcom’s buy to play MMORPG where myths and conspiracy theories reign supreme is going to be relaunched in 2017.
For large parts of the game being live, it has mostly gone unnoticed and under the radar. The timing of the game’s launch in 2012 had a lot to do with it, considering Guild Wars 2’s arrival that very same year. But it’s not like The Secret World is a bad game however. It’s a beautiful mess of intriguingly immersive stories set in a world where alternate realities exist. And its mix of perfectly whacky and lovable characters has garnered a cult following among die hard players.
Unfortunately, TSW is also hugely underrated. There is a lot that the game does well but in other areas such as combat and crafting, things start to fall apart. And that’s where the problem stems from. An unsavory combat system does kill player enthusiasm especially in MMORPG’s where fighting is core mechanic.
The relaunch does intend to improve this, and the improvements will begin in late March. Not only are Funcom addressing combat issues, but they are making the game more accessible. According to the report, players will now get the story content for free. If this means that they’ll drop the buy to play model and go free to play, then this could be a huge deal for the game. Guild Wars 2 did something similar two years ago, and has benefited.
Hopefully, The Secret World will get a fresh run on the MMORPG market. Theme park MMOs are usually copy pasted, but TSW is truly something out of this world. This game deserves a second look, especially if they can get the combat system right this time.
