In Mercenaries, players will assemble Parties of six heroes from among their roster and set out to complete single-player Bounties—a randomly generated series of battles which culminate in a bout with powerful Bounty Bosses. Every hero on the team will gain experience after each successful battle, increasing in power and gaining access to new abilities as they level up. Upon completing a full Bounty, players will earn a cache of treasure that includes Mercenary Coins, which they can use to craft additional heroes, or upgrade ones they already own.

The roster of Mercenary heroes—which includes over 50 at launch—was designed to encourage players to get creative when building teams, with countless powerful synergies for players to discover. Players can also bring their most formidable teams to the Fighting Pit, where they can square up against other players and earn experience, achievements, and other rewards.

“Mercenaries provides an experience that feels completely new, but embodies the fundamental spirit of Hearthstone,” said Mike Ybarra, co-leader of Blizzard Entertainment. “The team has opened up a whole new chapter for Hearthstone that captures its unique spirit, with a fresh mode full of strategic depth. I can’t wait to see the strategies our players will unleash on the world.”

Players who start their journey will earn their first eight Mercenary heroes just for completing the prologue and introductory missions. All other Mercenaries can be obtained from simply playing the campaign or via other in-game rewards. Starting today, players can also buy Mercenaries packs for 100 in-game gold each, or purchase pack bundles of different sizes from the Blizzard Shop, starting at $2.99 USD for two packs. Mercenaries packs contain five Mercenaries items, which can include Mercenary Cards, Mercenary Portraits, or Mercenary Coins, which can be used to craft or upgrade Mercenaries. Each Mercenaries pack contains at least one Rare or better Mercenary Card.

The Demon Hunter

The fearsome Demon Hunter, Hearthstone’s first ever all-new class, is coming free for all players who complete the free Demon Hunter Prologue campaign, which retells the origin story of the iconic Warcraft hero (and original Demon Hunter) Illidan Stormrage. All Hearthstone players can embark on the prologue campaign starting April 2. By completing the prologue, players will also earn access to 30 Demon Hunter class cards, and a convenient pre-built starter Demon Hunter deck using those cards.

The Demon Hunter and the new Demon Hunter class cards will enter Hearthstone on April 7 alongside the launch of Ashes of Outland, the first expansion of the year.

Ashes of Outland Expansion

Ashes of Outland takes Hearthstone beyond the Dark Portal into the shattered, war-torn realm that was the setting for 2007’s World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. Illidan Stormrage, the original Demon Hunter, has proclaimed himself Lord of Outland. Along with the Illidari—Illidan’s elite cabal of fellow Demon Hunters and their motley thralls and allies—he serves as the last bastion of hope against the dreaded Rusted Legion.

Coming April 7, Ashes of Outland introduces 135 collectible cards that aim to shake up Hearthstone with novel mechanics. Starting March 17, players can pre-purchase the Ashes of Outland Mega Bundle for $79.99. The Mega Bundle includes 90 Ashes of Outland card packs, one random Ashes of Outland Golden Legendary card, the Lady Vashj Shaman Hero, the Serpentine card back, four Arena tickets, and Descent of Dragons bonuses for the Battlegrounds game mode, which upgrade to the Tavern Pass ^* at the launch of Ashes of Outland. Year of the Phoenix Updates

The Year of the Phoenix will be an explosive one for Hearthstone, with a vast roadmap of expansions, features, updates, and in-game events in the works. Here’s a peek at what players can expect:

Galakrond’s Awakening will be the culmination of the year-long narrative that took place throughout Hearthstone in 2019—the Year of the Dragon. Galakrond’s Awakening also marks a return to the game’s original Solo Adventure format, where players tackle a series of unique boss encounters with pre-built decks to earn 35 new collectible cards. Once earned, these cards can be added to Standard and Wild decks, adding fun new options to further shake up the meta game. Upon completing Story mode as the League of E.V.I.L. and League of Explorers, players will unlock Heroic mode, where they can take on harder versions of the encounters armed with their own decks, which can include any of the cards in their Collections.

“The Year of the Dragon has been a dynamic and exciting one for Hearthstone, with a series of meta-shifting expansions, an ambitious year-long story, and a rapid cadence of new features and updates that have fundamentally evolved the game,” said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “Galakrond’s Awakening will bring the story we’ve been telling in the game all year to an epic and fitting conclusion, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

Galakrond’s Awakening consists of four installments that will roll out weekly starting January 21. Each installment includes two chapters—one covering the League of E.V.I.L., and another covering the League of Explorers—for a grand total of eight chapters in this Adventure. Individual Installments will be available for $6.99 or 700 in-game gold, or as a complete bundle for $19.99 USD. The first installment, Battle of the Frozen Coast, will be available on January 21, and all players can experience the League of E.V.I.L.’s chapter completely free, along with the ability to earn four new cards for completing it. For a limited time, players who pre-purchase the bundle will receive a Golden Classic Pack in addition to the full Adventure.
