Looking for some awesome Anime style MMORGPs to play? We’ve got you covered! Check these out!

Caravan Stories (PS4)

Now out on the PlayStation 4 for North America, Caravan Stories is a fun and relaxing MMO to play on your couch. This JRPG has over 2 million players in Japan, and let’s you play as a fantasy race selection comprising of Humans, Elves, Dwarves and more. Each race has a unique story-line but you can play other race stories too without creating alts. What’s unique about Caravan Stories is that you can recruit over 100 beasts and heroes to join your Caravan. Combat is party-based and and you’ll utilize your skills and tactics to defeat difficult raid bosses in the world and dungeons. You can play with others too, with a decent guild system and ranked PvP which is all about tower defense. And don’t forget to upgrade your Caravan! It follows you on your journey and you can build things within – from resource generation furniture to crafting stations. For a free to play MMO, Caravan Stories is worth checking out if you own a PS4!

Kurtzpel (PC)

KurtzPel is a fun 3rd Person, Anime-Inspired, Action Battle Game created by the developers of Grand Chase and Elsword Online. In KurtzPel, classic action game dynamics are enabled when players outfit their characters with 2, separate jobs (called Karma) that can be swapped out and utilized interchangeably, mid-combat. Players can enjoy various 2v2 PvP Modes; queued up by a smart, automated match-making system, player created 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 Custom Missions. Or, players can embark upon a larger-than-life, raid style, quest-driven battle system against big, bad boss monsters. Right now, the game is constantly being given new updates and recently got its guild feature to help bring the social parts of this MMO to life. It’s free to play model is decent, so let’s face it – you’re next waifu can be found here.

Blue Protocol (PC)

Anime and manga gamers the world over were pleasantly surprised when Bandai Namco announced Blue Protocol. This upcoming JRPG features a beatufil open world and action combat. Now throw in some sintillating character designs and art, and you have yourself a winner. The game recently underwent alpha tests back in July for Japan and the surrounding region, and no word has been released on wether or not players can expect a global launch. However, the good news is the game will definitely run on Unreal Engine 4. This simply means that it’s going to look amazing, much like a full-blown anime movie, according to regional critics. The studio is still deciding if it will be free to play or pay to play, so check back for future updates on this.

Aura Kingdom (PC)

This game offers you the chance to become the hero that saves the universe of Aura Kingdom from the grips of evil as well as from the bandits who, after being expelled for years have now returned with even more power than ever. The game lets you choose one of 8 different classes and one of 7 different companions , or “Ediolons” who fight at your side. The game has something for all different tastes, leaving the player with a remarkable sense of choice.

The game is most suited for children as most of the human characters in the game are young. It seems the makers of the game tried to appeal to younger gamers and kind of set aside the wants of more mature, sophisticated gamers. Taking into consideration the more RPG like choices and battle system, it’s best for each individual player to form their own opinions about the game’s childlike traits.

Twin Saga (PC)

Twin Saga features 10 different classes that players can swap between freely at any time without cost or restriction. Player housing also takes a different approach – the Terracottage is a mobile house that can move like mounts, and is a place where guilds and friends can hang out, gather materials and even craft. It is a fairly good MMORPG that contains rich lore and story that is complemented by a fast-paced action combat system that suits the art style. There’s plenty to do in PVE ranging from hidden quests, Astral Adventures and Dungeons, while the competitive players can try their hand at PVP in arenas or battlegrounds. Ultimately, Twin Saga should be credited for its fresh approach but doesn’t do enough to stand out from the MMORPG crowd.

Caravan Stories is a popular Japanese MMORPG on the PlayStation 4 that finally arrived in North America in 2019. Featuring classic JRPG story-telling, a vibrant world and a large cast of characters, is this free to play title worth playing on the console? Read on and find out!

What is Caravan Stories

The world is Iyarr and it’s being threatened by a demon invasion that you and your traveling caravan filled with colorful characters, must save. Caravan Stories allows you to play as an avatar from a few races – Humans, Dwarves, Elves and more, each with a unique story chain that can be experienced even if you picked a different race. With over 2 million players in Japan alone, this PlayStation 4 MMORPG is free to play and let’s you travel the world, experience the rich stories and characters and recruit more companions. The game does have PvE group content and PvP content too, although it’s split in two distinct sections. The first half is a long tutorial that players will undergo primarily solo. You will however unlock more features like Guilds, Raids and PvP by progressing the main story.

Gameplay and Combat

You’ll control your character in third person, and adventures takes place on closed-instanced map areas that are all connected. You begin with two other companions alongside you that are integral to the story. Depending on your chosen class, each character will synergize with you to offer good options during combat. Speaking of, combat takes place on a new screen whenever you “bump” into an enemy on the landscape. In the combat screen you control all the characters in your party formation in real time, executing skills in an RTS like fashion. It’s unconventional for an MMORPG, but it works. You can also use the auto-play feature and let the AI handle the micro-management of skill execution. Combat is determined by a few factors like character and companion levels, BP (battle power) and more, so it’s wise to always upgrade your gear and recruit more pets, beasts and companions into your caravan to do well in combat.

The game’s main story quest chain is excellent if you enjoy JRPGs. It’s fully voiced but only in Japanese with English subtitles. However, it still is an enjoyable ride and fleshes out the world and characters more. Once your main avatar is high enough to undergo Reincarnation, you can then pick another race and experience that race’s unique story-line, which adds tons of replayability to Caravan Stories.

The MMORPG Portion

Your first couple of hours in Caravan Stories will be main solo. You won’t see anyone on the maps but have access to the chat. As you make progress in the main story, more features opens up. The game has dungeons that can be run for currencies and gold solo or with friends, and then the Guild feature opens up. The best thing the game has that offers that MMORPG experience is landscape boss raids. When a demon invasion hits, you can join other players and their parties in taking down a big baddie for good loot. Sadly, it feels like you’re not involved and just a bystander, and it’s not that immersive. In the PvP department, the game has one mode – a tower defense style battle that pits your caravan and party against the other player. Matchmaking for that is quick and while fun, it feels like a mobile game gimmick more than anything else.

Another feature Caravan Stories has is of course, your own Caravan. You can access it from anywhere in the world and can build the interior. You can place crafting stations, currency generators and other important tools that will help you and your squad in future adventures. It’s an interesting system that rewards active players, but there’s again, a “gacha” mechanic about the whole thing that really gives off that mobile MMO vibe which isn’t a bad thing if you enjoy that aspect.

The Cash Shop

For a free to play game, microtransactions was always a given and Caravan Stories is no different. The game has a premium currency you can get for real money called Phantasm Gems. These can be used for beneficial items in the cash store, or to open loot boxes that may contain high level and rarity upgrade items for gear in addition to evolution items for your character’s progression. It’s advantageous to a certain extent, but only if you want to swing your ego in PvE. PvP is lacking at the moment, so spending plenty of money won’t give you much to shout about. It’s also important to note that while there’s plenty of stuff in the cash store, a lot of these items can be earned in-game by simply completing achievements to receive these Phantasm Gems to spend.

Should You Play It?

If you enjoy JRPGs and need something to casually play on the PS4, Caravan Stories might be a good fit. It’s got a decent story worth experiencing, and the one thing we haven’t talked about – the graphics and art – might be attractive too. The game is heavily marketed as an MMORPG, but to be honest Caravan does little to carry that tag. Solo play is something you’ll be doing a lot, and getting into Guilds and participating in the same few raids can lose its spark down the line.

If you’re tracking all the latest in MMORPGs this September, you’ll know it’s going to be a busy month ahead. With plenty of games launching, scheduling beta tests and dropping content, it can be hard to track – and much of that is already happening. Worry not, here’s the top MMORPG highlights happening this very week.

Astellia Name Reservations and Download Is Live

Korean MMORPG Astellia is ready to rock and roll. Launching on the 27th this month, Legendary Founders Pack owners can already begin reserving character names. The Legendary Pack costs $99.99 and there’s only a week or so left to grab one before it goes away entirely. But, if you have yet to download the new game client and to install the game, you can do so here. Astellia will allow you to reserve a total of one character name before the the first headstart on the 20th. However, you can still play around with the character creator and save as many customization templates into the beauty album as you wish.

Caravan Stories Launches in NA Later Today

For PlayStation 4 users in North America, a brand new MMORPG comes your way later today. Caravan Stories is a popular Japanese JRPG that doubles up as an MMO. In the world of Iyarr, you can play as one of the charming races available and adventure through the land while recruiting a vast amount of beasts and heroes as companions. They will make up the bulk of your party for the game’s real time party-based combat, which takes place on the landscape, in dungeons and in raids. There’s PvP duels, a guild system and a co-op mode as well, making the online experience with friends more enjoyable. Caravan Stories can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store and the file size is around 13 gigs. It’s free to play and has optional micro-transactions. No PS+ is required.

Eternal Magic Enters CBT Week 2

Upcoming theme park MMORPG Eternal Magic launched its CBT last week, and is now entering week 2. All players with early access packs can jump in and level up to the soft cap of 50. All content including dungeons, world bosses and random battlegrounds are unlocked for both NA and EU servers. Additionally, CBT players will get a daily allowance of the Elirs in-game premium currency to spend on cosmetic and boosts. Needless to say, all of this and progress overall will be wiped after CBT in preparation for an open beta. The CBT will end on September 15th.

Final Fantasy XIV Releases More Tales from the Shadows

Final Fantasy XIV players are still euphoric and rightly so, from the recently released Shadowbringers expansion. Toward the end of August, Square Enix began publishing a series of short stories called Tales from the Shadows. These shorts follows a perspective from certain main characters in the Shadowbringers saga. With obvious spoilers contained within, they offer plenty of insight into the mind-set of key characters leading up to the major plots in the expansion. To-date, two stories out of four are already available and this week we got the third. Read it here.

September is shaping up to be a fantastic month for MMORPG players. There’s plenty of titles hitting early access, closed betas or launching in full. Below are the top 5 MMORPG games launching in September 2019 that we’re hyped about.

1) Eternal Magic MMORPG Closed Beta Test

First up on September 4th, is the beginning of the closed beta test for upcoming free to play MMORPG, Eternal Magic. Eternal Magic from the outside looks like your typical run-of-the-mill classic theme park fantasy MMORPG, and that’s because most of what the game offers is exactly that. There are a few interesting features perhaps, for example, while the game caters to both PvE and PvP, it’s the player versus player game modes that are receiving a lot of marketing push.

This MMO will feature 80 player Guild Wars, open world pk-ing in certain zones and a MOBA mode, which lets you plays exactly like a game of DOTA or League of Legends, and that’s possible because Eternal Magic does have a click to move built in. There will be no region blocks for this one, it’s made in Asia and this version of the game is being published in Eastern Europe with servers for players in NA and EU at launch. So, how do you get into the CBT? For guaranteed access on the fourth of September, you’ll need to pick up a Gift Pack from the official website, and the cheapest one costs $15 USD.

2) Caravan Stories PS4 NA Launch

On the 10th of September, PlayStation 4 players in North America can get their hands on Caravan Stories, a free to play anime-inspired MMORPG that’s well received in Japan, where the game was made. Caravan Stories puts players in the vast world of Iyar and players must recruit heroes, tame monster companions, and beat back the threat that endangers the world. To do this, you’ll engage in real time party based combat, and putting together the ideal party composition, consisting of your recruited NPCs and pets will be key to deciding the outcome of PvE battles, dungeons and raids.

You’ll also need to make sure that your caravan is well stocked and decorated to your liking, because that’s the key to all of this, your caravan serves as your mobile home base and it travels to the world with you, in addition to crafting stations, armaments for defenses and more. Caravan Stories is a unique MMORPG exclusive to the PS4, and from what I hear it has plenty of JRPG influences when it comes to the narrative and characters. If you want to jump into Caravan Stories on the 10th, simply look it up in the PSN store on launch day, and again it’s free to play.

3) Population Zero Closed Beta

On September 19th, survival MMO Population Zero will be having its Closed Beta test phase. Population Zero puts hundreds of players on the newly discovered planet Kepler, and your job is to colonize it, if you can. The game features an action combat system, in-depth crafting and building, research and a class progression system with perks that many RPG players will be familiar with. Unlike other survival MMOs out there, this one will be narrative driven with factions you can join. The wildlife is organic and will fight back, whilst the environment in general reacts to the collective behavior of the inhabitants, made possible thanks to the complex algorithms in-place.

It sounds like an ambitious MMO, and right now there are many comparisons to games like No Man’s Sky, or Subnautica either due to how to game looks or based on its systems, so we shall see how they stand out from the crowd within this saturated survival genre space once CBT hits. How do you get into CBT? Firstly you can sign up for an account on the website, and at random you may be selected to get in. Keep an eye out for social media raffles and other giveaways too. For a guaranteed spot in the closed beta, players can purchase founders packs with the cheapest being $10 USD for guaranteed CBT access plus future invites to all further tests until launch.

4) Astellia Launch

September 27th is the official launch date for Astellia, a Korean MMORPG brought to the west by Barunson and EA. Astellia is another one of the new wave of Asian MMORPGs that are doing the buy to play method, which seems to be making some sort of a comeback. Astellia is a theme park MMO in which players will acquire Astells, which are mini-companions that you can summon to fight alongside you as they earn XP and level up, and they have unique abilities and combos to compliment the player characters class.

While there are dungeons and even a tri-faction RvR PvP mode, there are no traditional raids in Astellia, and there is the dreaded dungeon ticket system here. The one thing the developers promise however is that the western version will be free of the pay to win systems that exist in the east, and will let players Play to Win instead. That means no cash shop shenanigans, and interestingly, the developers are even undoing many of the Asian MMO tropes that the game launched with in Korea, such as gender locking of classes.

5) ArcheAge Unchained Launch

On the very last day of September, we have of course, the launch of ArcheAge Unchained. Unchained is the new buy to play version of this sandpark Korean MMORPG that in recent times, hasn’t had the best of reputations when it comes claims of pay to win, and this is one way that Trion, Gamigo and XL games are looking to fix that. Unchained will mirror the legacy servers in terms of gameplay and content, with the biggest difference being the monetization systems. For example, there’s no Apex, no patron status, no Lootboxes, no buying tax certificates for housing, no buying labor points and there’s a restriction on the number of alt accounts a player can have.

All of this sounds good on paper but there’s a long way to go before we see if they’ll keep it that way, or not. To get in Unchained, players will need to buy one of three packages available right now, with the cheapest coming in at $26 USD. All packages will allow for early character creation and name reservation which you should make use of if you want to spend more time in-game and less time in the queue on launch day. You can expect one to two servers for both NA and EU at launch. Also important to note, in a recent stream, the developers have confirmed that ArcheAge Unchained will be coming to Steam, and the global client will be the 64bit version.

After a delay, Caravan Stories finally has a confirmed launch date on the PlayStation 4. The game will be playable for free on September 10th 2019. Caravan Stories is an anime-inspired MMORPG played by more than 2 million adventurers in Japan.

Travel across the vast, beautiful world of Iyarr recruiting heroes and taming monsters. Explore haunting ruins, mystical forests, and awe-inspiring cities rendered in gorgeous watercolor tones. Gather strength to face threats: from challenging dungeons and open-world raids to ferocious foes that only emerge at certain times of day.

A monolithic structure appears above Iyarr. This mysterious threat—known as Enigma—manifests a portal from which chaos pours forth. Before the realm succumbs to shadow, heroes from the six races of Iyarr must stand together and push back the tides of darkness.

Master engaging real-time combat by building a party well-suited for Iyarr’s many dangers. A recruited NPC’s weakness can be complemented by the strength of a tamed monster. Defensive characters, ranged attackers, magic casters, and every role in-between must act in concert to win the day. Players can even tame real-world animals like dogs and cats. With nearly 300 unique heroes and beasts available to recruit, no two players will experience battles the same way.

Party management is key, but every journey demands a well-equipped caravan. These magical fortresses serve as a progression hub. Players can customize their caravan’s look, unlock weapon and armor crafting, create resource generators like gold and crystal pumps, and provide backup in battle with cannons and other armaments. Combine forces with other players, testing the party and caravan against legendary enemies.

“We’ve poured years into perfecting the world of Caravan Stories,” said Masahiko Takeuchi, PS4 Game Director, Aiming Inc. “Our new release date gave us enough extra time to fine-tune the experience for adventurers to begin writing their stories. We’re eager to see the tales our players write with their friends as they begin their journeys through Iyarr.”

Caravan Stories will be free-to-play on PlayStation 4 in North America, supporting English text and Japanese audio. To stay connected with the world of Caravan Stories, visit the official website and follow Caravan Stories onFacebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Twitch, and Discord.
