This upcoming expansion will include a new and powerful character, the Black Phantom, a wielder of dark magic in its purest form.

The Black Phantom is a human, female mage with her own unique set of skills and mechanics. The Black Phantom will be arriving in the game in April. Chaos Castle is a PvP mode known from WEBZEN’s popular MMORPG MU Online. In this mode, players fight against up to 50 other players until only one winner is left on a map which gradually shrinks over time. Chaos Castle will be open every day from 14:00 to 15:00 and 22:00 to 23:00 server time.

Players can also look forward to improvements in the guild system, with an increased maximum guild level and additional buffs for Guild Shrines. Furthermore, donating Trophies now allows players to obtain Guild Contribution Points. Lastly, players participating in the Faction War with their guild can enter a new Boss Challenge room which is available in 2- and 3-star territories. As a special benefit, 3-star guilds can also activate a server-wide buff.

Along with the update, MU Legend introduces a new Enchantment Protection system which allows players to avoid the destruction of items with a +10 enchantment level or higher. Enchantment Protection can be purchased at the Legend Shop with both Redzen and Bound Redzen.

To celebrate the arrival of the Chaos Castle update, the MU Legend team has arranged various events: players can look forward to an Enchantment Discount event and a Transcendent Stone Giveaway, as well as the popular Legend of Dice event which will last for a month and provide players with special items and better reward chests.

First, the in-game area Ohrdor has been transformed into a colorful night city with bright fireworks and a celebratory atmosphere. Along with this festival mood, players can collect Anniversary Coins that can be exchanged for valuable items through various in-game events.

To receive Anniversary Coins, players can complete the Ohrdor Sewer dungeon without letting the monster reach the ladder, or they can play the dungeon event of the Labyrinth and escape as fast as they can. Only 2 entries for each dungeon will be allowed per day. The daily entries are reset every day at 5:00 am UTC. Treasure hunts are also on offer for players to earn rewards, with treasures spawning around Ohrdor several times per week and at special times during the weekend.

Once players finish collecting Anniversary Coins through missions or different anniversary items, they will also gain the chance to be rewarded with special items. These include a selectable item of Lv. 70 Divine Set armor and 1st anniversary outfits/wings that are exclusive to the event. In addition, special sales and lucky boxes for the anniversary are now available in the shop.

Meanwhile, WEBZEN has merged MU Legend’s servers after the weekly maintenance today. The EU and US will each see the merging of both of their current existing servers into one server per region.

MU Legend has welcomed its latest class to the game this week. The Spellbinder is the 5th class available in the game, and its arrival today will give players a new gameplay experience. A support mage, MU Legend’s newest class uses wide-area crowd control and devastating direct hits to defeat enemies.

While the Spellbinder is the highlight of today’s release, WEBZEN has also announced several important additions to the game, starting with a new dungeon: Lupa’s Ancient Archive.

The dungeon accompanies an upgrade of the existing Epic dungeons, which introduces 5 new difficulty levels. Additional achievements, along with new Set and Mythic items, also await players. Furthermore, the release comes with the opening of a new Faction War season.

To celebrate the update, the MU Legend team has deployed several events. Players can get reward boxes simply by creating a new character. Those who have not played since before 7 March can also receive rewards, as will players who log in during one (or all) of the weekends between 20 March and 17 April.

The Spellbinder also has its own in-game event, named “The Chakram Event”, for which the players can earn multiple rewards. MU Legend will be rolling out its first major content update next week. The Faction Wars update arrives on January 9th and marks the first big update for the open beta. Faction Wars will feature conquerable guild territories through epic PvP matches.

MU Legend will be receiving its first major PvP content update next week on December 5th. Just 1 month on from the official OBT launch, WEBZEN is set to release its first content update for the game. On December 5th, the highly anticipated first set of PVP features will be unlocked, enabling players worldwide to compete with each other in fast-paced, cross-server 3v3 battles.

The cross-server functionality will enable users in specific regions to challenge players from other servers in the same region. While WEBZEN is working on December’s PVP update, new content, which will combine social & PVP features, is already scheduled and on its way.

Now that you know just a bit about the game, how fun is it? I can honestly tell you, it’s pretty good – everything from the opening tutorial to my first Rift dungeon run was great.

MU Legend Is More Than Just A Diablo Clone

One of the first things I noticed was just how similar this game is to D3. Everything from the aesthetics to the UI resembles Blizzard’s ARPG. But luckily, that’s where the comparisons stop. Beneath its ARPG layer, MU Legend has built an impressive depth for a new MMORPG set in the MU world. You’ll find plenty of players on every map unlike traditional ARPGs, and some mechanics will definitely make you feel like you’re in an MMO.

Combat and gameplay-wise, it’s all to do with action RPG hacking and slashing. The five classes have two different Talent trees to branch out it, offering different weapons and skills to use. I got a taste of a fully maxed out character for my class in the tutorial, and I had so much fun with it. It’s faced paced, feels right and it definitely hooked me.

High Production Values

I was also very impressed by just how good the presentation is – and I’m not talking about character textures or graphics that other Korean MMOs prioritize. I’m talking about grand cinematic cut scenes for storytelling, complemented by voice acting. These are all in MU Legend to a varying degree and I was pleasantly surprised that I actually found watching them enjoyable. Even the soundtrack is great. From a graphics standpoint, it’s decent but does have its issues. Even on a high-end gaming machine, I suffer from FPS drops here and there. It could be an optimization thing, which I hope does not make it out from open beta to live.

Other parts of the game are also well handled. Jumping into MU Legend for the first time can be daunting, and the game helps you all the way. There’s an in-depth info help center that pretty much explains every damned mechanic in MU Legend which is a ton of help.

The X Factor

Where MU Legends shines the most for me is with its high level combat. Unfortunately, the early levels are incredibly sluggish and slow. You have a ton of content to do – Rift dungeons are one which earns you decent gear and XP. Beyond that, there’s all manner of quests including the main story quest chain that is actually decent. The problem is, that opening 2-3 hours can feel painfully slow, especially for someone that’s a D3 veteran. The X Factor that MU Legend has is definitely the fun combat, but it needs to rework it for the early levels. But who knows, maybe it’s done intentionally to push players to purchase VIP from the cash shop for faster XP. Just a guess there.

But either ways, I’m having a blast in MU Legend. If you need a casual ARPGMMO to hack and slash some, check this one out. It’s also free to play, which I should have pointed out much earlier. Oh well.

If you’ve been following MU Legend closely, it’s time to rejoice. Webzen and MU Legends will be hosting the first open beta for the Korean MMORPG tomorrow, November 7th.

The latest version of the MU Legend client is already available for download on the official website. Players that participated in the last few stress tests will have a patch available when the servers open tomorrow. Timings will be based in UTC.

In addition, once the OBT starts in earnest, you will be pleased to know that there will not be any server wipes. Therefore, players can enjoy all progress and achievements made in the open beta, which carries on into the live game at launch. That’s a surprise move, and not many MMOs decide against wiping progress from beta to live. As they say, never look a gift horse in the mouth, so grind away we say.

If there are players out there who has not signed up for the OBT, you can do so at the the official page here. That’s where you’ll find the client for download as well. MU Legend will open the doors into a fantastic world, long before the events of MU Online. As previously introduced, players will have four classic MU-franchise classes to choose from and embark on their epic journeys.

According to MU Legend developers Webzen, open beta is coming really, really soon. This is exciting news for players who have been keeping an eye on the game’s release. MU Legend will apparently enter its open beta test phase sometime in November.

Before then however, the game does have something in store for you. There will be a special event to celebrate the OBT. The event is called #BreakOurServer which will take place of September 23rd. The intention is probably to test the technical side of things, like server structure integrity. In simpler terms, it means how many players can the server hold. Anyone can participate in the event by downloading the client. It is unknown if there will be any rewards for participating in the event.
