This week, Star Trek Online welcomes one of Star Trek’s first female captains to the PlayStation and Xbox  versions of the free-to-play MMORPG. In the latest console update, Shadow’s Advance, captains will join  Terran forces led by Marshall Janeway (Kate Mulgrew, who originated the character in Star Trek:  Voyager and reprised the role in Prodigy on Paramount+) to kidnap a person of great importance from  Jupiter Station in Federation space. Players will also team up with two familiar Mirror Universe allies,  Captain Killy (Mary Wiseman) from Star Trek: Discovery and Admiral Leeta (Chase Masterson), a fan-favorite in Star Trek Online. Shadow’s Advance follows their story from the perspective of Admiral  Janeway from the Prime Universe, who is retelling the accounts of their actions.

Shadow’s Advance also continues the festivities for Star Trek Online’s 12th anniversary, which kicked off  last month on PC. Participating in this event along with numerous episodes and  TFOs associated with Mirror Universe, will unlock this year’s anniversary ship, the T6 Jarok  Alliance Carrier.

  • Featured Star Trek Actors – Star Trek Online is excited to welcome Kate Mulgrew to the game,  who originated the role of Captain Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager. Players will also team up with  the vicious Captain Killy (Mary Wiseman from Star Trek: Discovery) and Admiral Leeta (Chase  Masterson from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) who was recently featured in the last season,  Reflections.

Starting now, Star Trek Online players can join the game’s first-ever Halloween event, The Fall of the Old Ones, on PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Like the “First Contact Day” event, this new three-week celebration begins with a single event and will be expanded over time. Captains will beam down to an ancient castle on Pyris VII, where they will encounter the Old Ones, the same iconic aliens introduced in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Catspaw.” These extragalactic beings have traveled to the Milky Way to study humanity, but their plans have been disrupted by the ghost-like Devidians. This new Task Force Operation brings your Captain into the same maw of terror first faced by Captain Kirk, Mr. Scott, and Dr McCoy.

Captains who are brave enough to navigate the darkness and fear that plagues The Fall of the Old Ones will unlock a Old One Vanity Pet and a Transmuter Wand Universal Kit Module, which transmutes its targets into a sentient black cat who disables the shields and powers of its allies. To obtain these in-game items, Captains will need to earn one daily progress per account, per day, for two weeks, by playing the brand new Task Force Operation, “Cat’s Tale.”

Participating in this event grants daily progress towards the Grand Prize: The Transmuter Wand Universal Kit Module, and the Old One Vanity Pet. Additionally, the first character on your account that claims this reward will also receive 25,000 Dilithium Ore, and 3 Featured Episode Reward Boxes. Obtaining the Grand Prize requires 14 daily progress, and Captains can earn one daily progress per account per day by playing the brand new Task Force Operation: Cat’s Tale!

Once Captains have obtained 14 daily progress on their account, they can claim the Grand Prize. After that, the event will still be playable, granting a scaling Dilithium reward that begins at 8,000 Dilithium Ore and scales by 1,000 Dilithium Ore for every day you participate in the event, up to a cap of 50,000 Dilithium Ore per day.

Captains will also have the option to purchase their remaining progress in the event with Zen. The price for this buyout will prorate, based on the amount of progress a Captain has completed.

Star Trek Online is officially 11 years old, and to celebrate, Cryptic Studios has announced that the MMORPG’s newest sesaon, House Reborn, is available on PC and will release on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One at a later date. The beloved free-to-play MMORPG celebrates 11 years of expanding the emblematic Star Trek Universe for Captains around the globe with House Reborn, a brand new content update which kicks off Part 1 of the finale to the game’s epic Klingon War. The new season introduces two exciting featured episodes centered around Star Trek: Discovery’s L’Rell (voiced by Mary Chieffo, who originated the role) and Tenavik (voiced by guest star Sam Witwer)Captains will also discover a brand new Klingon Recruitment System, a Special Anniversary Event to earn the new Alliance Temer Rader and a complete revamp of the Klingon experience, including remastered environments, missions, stories and more. Plus for the first time ever, Star Trek Online will allow players of all factions to command any ship.

“It is truly amazing to witness how Star Trek Online continues to resonate with people after 11 years,” said Yoon Im, CEO of Perfect World Entertainment. “The Cryptic Studios team is incredibly passionate about Star Trek and has done a tremendous job of bringing the films and shows to life in the game. We could not be more thrilled to celebrate this milestone with them and our devoted players.”

“We feel so honored to be on this journey after 11 years,” said Andre Emerson, the game’s executive producer. “Each new year brings more Star Trek content than ever before and we feel like we’re just getting started. None of this would even be possible without the constant support from our players, and we would like to thank them dearly for it.”

After the Klingon Empire broke apart in House Shattered, J’Ula, matriarch of House Mo’Kai, travels to the sacred planet of Boreth. Plagued with guilt, she tracks down Tenavik (voiced by Sam Witwer from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, under the guidance of Kenneth Mitchell, who originated the role), the Klingon outcast who was first introduced in Star Trek: Discovery, with hopes that he can lead her to enlightenment. The journey won’t be an easy one, however. Players will be tasked with guiding J’Ula along her spiritual voyage, one where she will not only have to face ghosts of the past, present and future, but also descend into the pits of the Klingon underworld Gre’thor itself. There she will seek guidance from L’Rell, the famed Klingon warrior who played a pivotal role in the first few seasons of Discovery (voiced by Mary Chieffo, who originated the role). Captains will also reunite with General Martok (played by J.G Hertzler from Deep Space: Nine), Adet’Pa (voiced by Rekha Sharma from Star Trek: Discovery) and Aakar (played by Robert O’Reilly from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine).

All this takes place across two brand new featured episodes. House Reborn also introduces a ton of new playable content for PC players to explore and exciting updates exclusively for Klingon characters. A full list of game features released with today’s update includes:

  • Two Brand New Episodes – In “Knowledge is Power,” Captains will play as J’Ula and return to the sacred planet, Boreth to seek guidance from Tenavik, before heading to Gre’thor to seek out guidance from L’Rell in “Leap of Faith.”

  • Klingon Recruitment System – Players who start a new Klingon Captain will now earn several rewards for all Captains on their account.

  • Klingon Revamp – This past summer, Star Trek Online began a full revamp of the Klingon Defense Force faction. With today’s update, all mission content exclusive to Klingon Captains is now fully remastered, including most environments, stories and missions, cutscenes and voice-overs from Star Trek actors like Michal Dorn (Worf) and Shannon Cochran (Lady Sirella). Updated content also includes:

    • Remastered Tutorial – Players will discover treachery aboard their ship and take command from a traitorous captain.

    • Empire Story Arc (5 missions) – Captains will travel across the empire and uncover a plot to overthrow the Empire.

    • Warzone Story Arc (4 missions) – After discovering the traitors of the Empire, players will join forces with Worf and House Martok.

  • Anniversary Event – Captains will be able to explore numerous episodes, patrols, and TFOs associated with the Klingon Civil War, and earn a new Alliance Klingon Bird of Prey.

Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios announced Star Trek Online: Awakening is now live on PC and launches on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One October 15. The time has come for Star Trek Online captains to return to the 25th Century. In the newest update to the free-to-play Star Trek MMORPG, players will warp to the year 2410 and team up with a sentient hologram of Lt. Commander Paul Stamets (voiced by Anthony Rapp from Star Trek: Discovery) to stop the Klingons from destroying the Mycelial Network. Captains will also discover a new series of patrols to repair rifts in the fabric of space, a brand new Task Force Operation and Mycelial Event to earn a new T6 starship. Plus in the coming weeks, a new ship bundle will be released in the Zen Store, which includes the debut of the U.S.S. Somerville, a special collaboration with the Star Trek Comics by IDW Publishing.

During Age of Discovery, players were introduced to J’Ula, sister of T’Kuvma and matriarch of the Klingon House of Mo’Kai. This savage leader waged a war against the Federation of Planets at Starbase 1 and inadvertently transported both fleets to the year 2410, using stolen Mycelial spore technology. It is now up to Star Trek Online’s bravest captains to track down J’Ula and ensure that she doesn’t corrupt the entire Mycelial Network. In order to accomplish this mission, players will require the expertise of an astromycologist, a hologram of the legendary Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets from the U.S.S. Discovery (voiced by Anthony Rapp). Under his guidance, captains will navigate their way through the elaborate Mycelial Network to reverse the damage caused by the Klingons and face off against another fungal based enemy who has returned – the Elachi.

The update features:

  • Brand New Featured Episode –  Captains hailing from all of the game’s factions can participate in the new featured episode “Beneath the Skin.” Players will depend on a hologram of Commander Paul Stamets from the U.S.S Discovery to safely guide them through the Mycelial Network.
  • Five New Patrols – Players can embark on a mission with Stamets and Star Trek Online luminaries like Lukari Captain Kuumaarke to close the rifts caused by the Klingons.
  • New Task Force Operation – Up to five players can participate in this special ground TFO against the Elachi, which tasks them with shutting down probes that threaten to destroy the Mycelial Network.
  • Mycelial Event – Captains who participate in this special event can earn the new T6 Elachi ship by playing through the new featured episode, patrols and TFO throughout the next month.
  • New Event UI – The dev team has revamped the Event UI to make it easier for players to access new special events.
  • Patrol Systems – A new tab has been added to the PvE system, which allows captains to immediately enter selected patrols and gain bonus rewards.
  • New Starships – In just two weeks, players will be able to purchase the new Cross Faction Intel Science Bundle, which includes the Klingon Balth and the U.S.S. Somerville, a starship first introduced in the Star Trek Comics from IDW Publishing.

Captains can also access Awakening to participate in a series of exciting patrols to repair time rifts, a brand new Task Force Operation and a special Mycelial Event which rewards players with a new T6 Elachi ship for completing missions.

While waiting for Star Trek Online: Awakening to release this fall, players can still catch up on all three chapters of Age of Discovery for free on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation®4. Players can create a Federation Captain from the Discovery timeline and explore six featured episodes starring original characters from the show, including Ensign Sylvia Tilly and Captain Killy from the Mirror Universe (voiced by Mary Wiseman), as well as Captain Gabriel Lorca (voiced by Jason Isaacs) and Commander Ellen Landry (voiced by Rekha Sharma). Age of Discovery also introduces brand new game content, including the popular Task Force Operations and Personal Endeavors system, and streamlines the game for new users by revamping the mission journal and removing level restrictions for Tier 6 starships.
